    Hello,

I am in the market for a condo/town house specifically in Brighton, Newton, Belmont, Cambridge and Arlington.

Traditionally, I know that Newton, Cambridge and Belmont are nicer areas. What's your opinion on Brighton? Is it really up-and-coming? Safe to live alone? Not really concerned about "school district".

the challenge with brighton is that it's a school area (BU plus). it will always be a university area, so the housing stock will behave accordingly. i remember in the 80s when brighton was more or less one big frat house :) . there have been some nice buildings put up and whatnot, but if you care about resale value, i'd stick with the other areas you're looking at. even if you want to live in brighton, consider the corner of brookline that abuts it.

i wouldn't rush to say that brighton is "not safe" but of the towns you listed, if you pull the crime stats, i'm sure it WAY outshines everybody else in this regard.

that list of towns if very broad in terms of types of communities and whatnot.

are you relocating to boston? if you tell us a bit more about what you're looking for, we might be able to help you narrow things down.

    doody.
