I paid $35k for mine in December. High mileage but it burns no oil and just had a major service. Unusual and gorgeous Nero Metallizato color. I didn't do a real prepurchase, so there are new little "surprises" every time I look under the covers, but although perhaps I overpaid a little, I am very happy with the car.

I bought one car on ebay - it's no big deal. You can scream and yell all you want, but the bottom line is that the winner of the auction is not really obligated to buy your car at all. So what? Just make it clear in the listing that if he doesn't want it when he sees it, that's that. No "offsets", in other words take it or leave it.

I bought my car out of these pages - that might be your best bet.

Whenever "what price?" comes up, there are guys on here that always have amazingly low numbers and state them as if they should be expected. IMHO RandyLee got a great deal on his if it turns out to be a well-maintained no-stories car. According to the latest issue of Forza and what I've seen by watching sales around here for the past few years I'd say a T is worth quite a bit more. Forza's November 2008 market report has the T Cab at $45k low end, $55k high end. IMO, I'd say a well documented, recently serviced, no-stories T Cab in great shape should realistically go for around $45k-$48k. Again, just my opinion, although I believe the Ferrari Market Letter's numbers are very similar. Now is the part where I get ripped to shreds by the low ballers.....

As far as selling a car on E-Bay, search the threads on here and you'll get some good info on how to proceed. (Or pm me and I can give you my $.02)

Also, you have to consider the state of the economy right now. I don't believe that really affects the value of the car, but it sure as heck shrinks the number of buyers for an under $50k "toy" car with hefty maintenance costs. The "value" of the car is negatively affected when the seller needs funds and drops the price to a bargain level to increase the number of willing buyers. Then he kicks himself in the long term for selling it so low.

You see these all over the map, but the good ones are still in the $40's to $50K. Check out some of the ads for t cabs on F-Ads (at least one or two in the $50's). Prices seem to be higher for a t cab in comparison to a t coupe (despite the US rarity of the coupe). I think this is somewhat due to the panache of the four-seater, cabriolet F-Car.

In my opinion, the reply poster didn't overpay even for a higher mileage t cabrio.
Points of reference (all based on condition, of course):

    1) Latest Forza: Low-45K High-55K for an excellent example (Coupes about 5- 10K lower)

    2) I know personally of a recent sale near $50K for a low mile, t cabrio + needed service and known items to be addressed, the new owner knowingly will be in the upper $50's.

    3) Sub 20K mile cars should still command over $40K to mid-upper $40's based on condition, normal mileage, IMO

These cars are a great value, in a wonderfully useable package.

$35K for a t cab would only be if the seller were under duress, or if the car had high mileage or other known problems to be addressed over/above normal maintenance.

When I sell mine ('89 red/tan, 19K mileage, original throughout + 348 wheels) -- I'll be in the mid-$40's for sure (or I will keep it) and think that the buyer would be getting a very equitable deal. Yours sounds very similar.

    ...and a comment about eBay.

Use it to list your car (with commensurately high reserve) to gain exposure, but don't expect to sell it there unless you want to sell it to a low-baller looking for a bargain.

My opinion: eBay for Ferrari's is a marketing tool, or a wholesaling method--not much in between. Its for 'stories' cars who need the buyer to get caught up in the fever pitch of the auction...to get them to commit.

Valid, that is why I recommended Fchat as the place I would try first. As for stories, my car had a stack of stories, including a speedo replacement, but that doesn't mean I am not happy with it. It just turned out that the stories weren't all that serious - the need refurb is going to cost me less than $5k and a bunch of very enjoyable hours of work.

I will say this about eBay, I think serious buyers can be found there - however the presentation of the car is key. So many of the listings are fluff and BS. Who can blame the buyers for being flaky when the presentation is so weak? But, ever once in a while you see a listing that is the real deal. All the stories are told in a no-nonsense manner, the pictures show all the beauty AND all the warts in crystal-clear detail, the seller makes it plain that this is the truth, the whole truth, and nothing but. A forthright presentation like that builds confidence in the buyers and you will see successful transactions - successful for both parties. I am not saying that such a presentation cannot be faked, but it requires a lot of work going in, and most con artists are too lazy. Besides, the kind of presentation I am describing is so forthright that, although it may not actually be actionable if it proves not genuine, it sure appears to be.

I feel that ebay will bring a higher price for a good car. Take professional looking photos. Consider the background but don't take the car to the beach to photograph it. If you shoot it in a clean garage/driveway the car will look loved and cared for. Try to present the car so when someone who has never seen a Mondial t before thinks it is the most beautiful car in the world. The listing needs to have the "gotta have it factor". Write a short story about the car and how much fun it is. Also, if your car has a name, throw that in too. Sell the car as "perfect". If it is not "perfect", fix it. Don't say anything arrogant like "Serious bidders only" or "you won't find a nicer Mondial anywhere" it ruins the tone of the add. You want to get people excited. There are people all over the world watching ebay. If they fall in love with your car they just might buy it. How do I know? Because my wife paid a premium for two cars on ebay (Mondial t and Fiat 500) that she just had to have. No regrets either.

As a consumer I do not like ebay. Too many fake bidders trying to get the price up. So, I would always appreciate a buy it now price. I personally never look for a deal when buying a car. I pay what the car is worth to me. I think ebay opens you up to consumers like myself that are not investors but looking for a dream car. When the right one comes along, they won't let it get away.

The Mondial is the perfect first Ferrari!

    Ron,
If you are nervous about selling your car on ebay, utilize a professional like myself.
In fact, my name is Ron also and I own an '89 Mondial T Cab (29k miles super condition).
Click below to see the presentation that I did on my own car:

I obviously know Mondials very well.
In addition, I've sold over $10 million worth of cars and motorcycles in the past 9 years using my website
as well as ebay (many Ferraris including Mondials and countless other exotics).
I've got the feedback rating and reputation.
Please visit my website at www.ronsusser.com
and perhaps I can help you.
