how much do you think this will affect their sales in the world of production cars? how many people are going to boycott them? or will it have no real effect in the long-term?

No effect. 99% of the people in the world could care less about f1, and 90% probibly don't even know what it is.

haha seriously. Although I head the French station turned off the broadcast because of all the Michelin bashing.

Personally I'll still buy Michelin, but I just have a lower opinion of them now.

I would just steer clear of the new Michelin F1 Reddition Edition GP tire line.

Unfortunately there will not be the consequences that should happen. Being here in Indy, I'm sorry for all the fans who came great distances to see the race and were left with basically a 6 car practice. One very sad day for F-1.
    Trash the one tire rule!!

I'm not sure the "what F1?" argument applies, here. Michelins are pricy tires -- people who don't have an interest in performance aren't going to pay the premium.

So Michelin shot itself in the foot with their biggest market.

Interesting that the Bridgestone ads are back on speedtv coverage, but no michelin ads this race.

I doubt it will affect sales at all; but it will reinforce my disgust with the near- constant turmoil that F1 seems to enjoy politically. (Sorry, another thread-theft)

I just noticed that my rental car has Michelin tires on it. I think i am going to call up Budget and demand that they give me a new car, since Michelin states that there tires are unsafe for Indy.

I will never purchase any Michelin product.

I am no longer a fan of what Michelin and won't buy the tires now. However, I did find it amusing to see the commercial's that were on for them "designed after the Formula 1 racing tires"

oh that makes me feel great lol

I don't see tire sales falling. Michelin has always made great high performance road tires and will continue. I've seen more Michelin Pilot Sport and PS2 tires on sports cars than anyother brand. My car came with Bridgestone RE040s from the factory and they're "high performance" on their website. From my experience, they suck, big time, especially in the rain. The people I know with Bridgestones have sold for PS2s or want, too, but are waiting for the tread to go down. I will definitely never buy Bridgestones because of my personal experiences not some racing league with tire compounds that will never be on a street car for at least 10 years.

You're in Florida -- you don't get rain, you get wash-outs.

RE040s are OEM tires -- designed as a compromise all season tire for the bulk market - from Florida to Frostbite Falls.

When EVO owners complained about the Yoko's handling in Florida deluges, the overwhelming response was to swap to Potenza S03s: excellent wet handling, good dry handling, and Florida doesn't have to worry about below 40F performance.

I have S03s on my Ferrari (328) from the days when I used it rain or shine, and they're miles above the Gatorbacks that were on it -- most especially in the rain.

Although, now that I have the EVO for rainy days, I'm thinking I should have the Yokos on the Ferrari and S03s on the EVO. The A-series Yokos are sticky as all get out, but aren't so hot in the rain.

Boycotting Michelin isn't much of a stretch for me, as every time I've considered a new set of tires, the Michelins were just too much money for too little performance: For the Celica AllTrac (all season), the Michelins lost out to the Dunlops for value for money. For summer (dry/wet) I went S03s for sheer performance. For winter on the EVO, the Nokians came up snow kings.

But I'm glad to have Bridgestones on my Ferrari today.

Really though, while the S03s were at the top of the TireRack survey at the time, it wasn't by that big a margin. Price was a factor. And so was "If they're good enough for Schumi, ..."

"Win on Sunday, Sell on Monday".

"Wimp out on Sunday, ..." (fill in the blank)

I dont think it will have an effect at all.

When France was giving the USA a hard time about going into Iraq, i remember so many people saying they would not buy from French companies. Bottom line is if you are buying a performance tire, you will buy it based on performance. If anyone decided to go for a lower performance tire just because of what happened at Indy in June '05, they are only harming themselves. Michelin will not likely suffer any drop in sales, but those lesser tires will be on your car for thousands of miles to remind you of your decision.

Michelin screwed up BIG time, but their punishment will come through the media and from the FIA and their teams, it won't come from consumers.

It doesn't really wash out here except for hurricanes, it rains everyday, but for 10 minute showers. The RE040s are OEM, but I know from other owners that they are horrible in snow, people could not get out of their driveways. Winter tires are a must for my car (350Z).

As for the 40F temp here in FL, I live in Gainesville, FL (120 mi NW of Orlando) and it gets into the 20s for winter for long periods. Even Orlando gets to low 30s high 20s sometimes. All I know is that I have not been impressed with my Bridgestones and I won't buy them again.
