I take it you two have driven and owned TR7's and are therefore qualified to make these statements.

The TR7 is probably the best value sportscar on the road today, especially in V8 form. What other sporstcar gives you V8 power, all steel construction, open top motoring, good handling and all for around 5K.

When the TR7 was introduced in 76 it was years ahead of it's time in the styling department. The design was slated because it was such a radical change from the TR6,but what happened after production stopped in 81.
Triumph left a gap in the market and along came TVR with the wedge shaped Tasmin.

As for the TR40,personally,I don't like them, but each to their own.If the guy wants to build a F40 replica because he can't afford a real Ferrari what's wrong with that.Sounds like an elitist attitude to me.

I do admit to briefly having a tr7 many many years ago, but the 7 wasn't exactly a sports car, yes the v8 was ok but there are better cars for £5k

As for building the f40 ''REPLICA'' please tell me where there is a resemblence to the real thing, the F40 was NEVER a targa top, it was NEVER Front engined, the tail lights/dimensions/dash are nothing like original, I think that this Pos is a poor excuse for a replica, it is a FAKE

There is a chap near me with side strakes on a red mini, but he doesn't call it an Austin Testarossa ''Replica''

I am far from Elitist, I own a Mondial and probably have the cheapest car at any Ferrari event I go to, it doesn't bother me, what makes me laugh is people who build ''FAKES'' and convince themselves that it is a ''REPLICA'' of the real thing

Tiff Needel once said he doesn't mind replicas BUT they must be cheaper than the original and MUST have the same engine

If the 7 wasn't a sporstscar,I take it you don't call the MGB,MX5 etc sportscars. If there are better value cars for 5k that give you more than a V8 TR7 and I forgot to add that the 7V8 can be used every day, then please enlighten me.

The TR7 has never been targa topped and I have never said the TR40 was a good replica(I have said that I don't like them). There are very good, almost exact replica's and there are not so exact replica's.The TR40 was never ever supposed to be an exact replica of the F40,it is a body styling kit which gives a look of a famous Italian supercar, nothing more nothing less.

Steve, All I am saying is that the Word ''Replica'' & ''Fake'' are different things, he calls that Pos a ''Replica'' when its clearly a ''Fake'', it in no way resembles mechanically or aesthetically the real thing

A fake is something that is passed off as the real thing,a replica is something that is trying to emulate the real thing either loosely or closely but makes no atempt to be the real thing. That is what the TR40 does.

What a load of crap, how can you build a replica F40 with the same engine,it would cost the same as the real thing.I know of 2 Cobra replica's,one has a MGB 1800 engine in it and the other has a 2 litre ford Pinto. Both are lovely economical cars but would both be POS in your eyes.

ooo touched a raw nerve have we?

Oh yes, the TR7 was a great example of British Sportcars. Hence why they are so revered today.

Hardly elitist attitude either and thanks for making more assumptions. I own and have owned quite a few British Sportscars and the TR7 was the car that signalled the end for many a worthy marque. The more of them in junkyards or turned into F40 replicas the better IMHO.

    Cheers
