Agree. That is why we sell so many cars on consignment. out of every 20 people that call, make offers even come and look at the cars only a couple are serious buyers. The clients who have us sell cars don't have the time or patience to deal with it.

As a new 348 owner, this is spot on. To with the 348SS that I bought I wanted many of the things said above. To each his own and I am happy with the car and the price I paid. I will eventually get a 360 with F2 shifting, but I do love all the 'quirks' of the 348. That is part of her allure.

    Guys,

I have to be fair here and say that some of the reactions to Scott's list of suggestions might have been a little harsh.

As far as I can see, Scott was NOT presenting a list his own list of questions... he was just answering Copterjon's original post, which expressed bewilderment about the car's lack of reasonable bids/offers.

What was said between Copterjon and Scott privately is really irrelevant to the point I think he was trying to make in that long post and the point I am trying to communicate here.

I think what he was trying to say is that in the advertisement of a car like this, the trick is to detail the car as much as possible PRECISELY to avoid having to answer all kinds of questions about the car -- PRECISELY to filter out the tire kickers / punters / etc.

I've sold all my personal Ferraris for very good money. I've been doing this a long time though for not as long as some of the Emeritus status / Ferrari hall-of-famers here (Ciao, Dino). Nonetheless, my style is to put up an Ebay ad and answer every possible question under the sun. This way I don't waste my time being pestered with silly questions because at the end of the day everyone has silly questions. Better in my opinion to answer as many of them as possible in advance.

I think to QUALIFY someone as not a real buyer just because he may have some silly questions is itself silly. All real buyers have silly questions. The guy who eventually strokes the check asked all kinds of silly things at some point. Of course, the silliness does signalize the *type* of buyer.

I've benefited from my approach because I basically just get emails from the guys who are real. Often I get complimented on informing them about the car without them even needing to ask. It makes buyers feel comfortable when they see a seller who voluntarily puts everything out there -- shows a certain amoung of enthusiasm. The guys who are poking around dreaming who are looking for a reason to not buy the car are filtered out because everything that they want to know is right there on the table. I'm not saying everyone ought to use this approach; I'm saying it's a bulletproof approach and I think that's what Scott was trying to say.

    ON THE OTHER HAND:

If on the first or second occasion of communication the buyer is asking about things like tire tread, brake life, and silly stuff that really is small potatoes, look out. The thing for sale is a car, and all cars need tires, brakes, etc. Work that out in the price for Christ's sake. The buyer should be asking the big things like "Is there any paint work on the car," etc. Getting lost in the details is missing the forest for the trees.

On a personal level: John is a friend of mine and he's got a terrific 348 that's received a lot of love. John, how are you my friend! Best of luck with the sale.

This thread has gone on too long and has taken on a life of it's own that I think does nothing good. I think it has fostered resentment among friends and possibly ruined future friendships.

I think the vast difference in personality types and style are crossing up and shorting out.

I would like to at some point via PM exchange numbers with Scott and discuss some things as enthusiasts for the marque and perhaps we could get a little better understanding of who each of us are.

Who knows we could end up friends. At the very least not adversaries cringing every time we see each others posts and thinking “Oh God not that jerk again”. This is supposed to be a fun place. Let’s keep it going that way and the vibrations positive.:)

    Peace!

Perhaps this thread should be converted.

I agree that nothing good will probably come from continuing this thread. The entire thread "is what it is" because of what someone or some people said. I don't think it took on a life of its own.

YES!!!! Gotta love those bumpers ;)
But geez.... where's Rodney King when you need him?

Please, please pull the plug on this thread. I haven't even taken delivery of my new 348 yet (maybe next week) and I find myself reading about how they're old and how they compare poorly to the 355......... My God, that's not what I need to hear right now, this is supposed to be an exciting time! If I wanted a 355, I'd have bought one, but this will be my first Ferrari, so I wanted to start with what I expected would be a less complicated model. No doubt, I'll upgrade someday, but I need to start somewhere.

    Positive thoughts! Positive thoughts!

He said, she said, misinterpretations, personality differences, battle lines being drawn among friends of the different posters views. It’s a runaway train that just needs to stop.
It’s too many pages of negativity.

Unless you’re a total fuddy duddy it does have some good comedic value.:D

348's Rock and I have stated many a time that there is no upgrading from a 348 to a 355 just crossing over to something different.
You will love your 348 don't ever second guess that! And while they do have their little quirks, they're quirks that make it special and that's why we love 348's

Keep the faith you're gonna love your car!:)

John--if I had known you were the woman in Dave's post I would have conducted myself differently. :)

Seriously, many of us took our eye off of the ball, which was to commiserate with John about selling his car. In spite of a storm of good intentions, this thread should have been one long sales pitch for what looks to be an awesome 348, and that's not what happened, and that's why I had begged off.

Peace to the botherhood, and to all a good night.

....actually, as I reviewed the posts of our new 348 owners, as well as those "seeking a good 348", I had wondered why they were not considering Johns car. No question it is a very nice car. However, the add-ons may not appeal to some, as has been said, thus reducing the potential pool of "bidders".

I agree that the car will sell....there IS the right buyer of the car out there, but it will take some time. An original car will appeal to more buyers and sell more quickly so long as it is priced fairly. If you have to sell the car quickly, then you will have to sell it at a discount in this market. PLEASE don't be offended by the input John...it is invaluable and much more honest IMO than what you can get from personal friends, for obvious reasons. Once again, I understand your frustration, it is a tough market for "toys"...

Thanks for the input, no offense taken and thanks for understanding my frustration.

I think the Frustration-aggression theory is very applicable in my way of responding to some of the posts.

For those not familiar with the theory here it is:

When people perceive that they are being prevented from achieving a goal, their frustration is likely to turn to aggression.

The closer you get to a goal, the greater the excitement and expectation of the pleasure. Thus the closer you are, the more frustrated you get by being held back. Unexpected occurrence of the frustration also increases the likelihood of aggression..

If you think about it each and everyone of us deal with this every day.:)
