rear 12 led safe matrix lights, are working or just only style ?

Hello, Im just wondering if the 4*3 rear bottom led lights (matrix) on the 488 models, the ones that are like the F1 ones, are just for esthetic styling purposes, or do they light and turn on in say raining conditions when brake or something like

 

It's a rear fog lamp.

 

can they manually be activated, on/off or just only on fog.
Do they flash ? (intermitent)

I've never activated those. What good are rear fog lights anyway unless you are driving in reverse?

 

Rear fog lights are a legal requirement in Europe and some other countries. They have been mandatory for years and are a high intensity light allowing other motorists to see the back of your car in foggy conditions. They have nothing to do with increasing your visibility when driving in reverse.

 

Strange. One would think that's what those big bright LED rear lights are for since they have to already be on in order to turn on the fog light. We use fog lights in the US only in the front of the car to pierce through the fog so you can see where you are going. High beams in dense fog will just bounce back and blind you.
