    Hi all,
I'm trying to sort out which way up the rear ATE calipers should be mounted on M/E-series Dinos.

The shot from my E-series workshop manual below shows the spring and lever coming out of the bottom of the back of the caliper and the bleed screw is at the top along with the tapping for the hard brake line. The M-series and later E-series manuals show the same thing and sadly the workshop manual shows only the 206/L-series brakes, which are different.

My E-series #02750 was taken apart by me and my disassembly photos are the same as the reassembly photo below, where the handbrake lever and spring are on top of the rear of the caliper and the bleed screw is at the top. The tapping for the hard brake line is on the bottom.
The car hadn't moved since the 80's and everything very "original" including the brake hoses etc. see photos below which loop under - also my replacement hoses from Superformance are the correct length to reach the bottom of the caliper.

The lever/spring located on the top makes more sense to me because the cable is aligned with the suspension as it moves up and down and wouldn't tighten in suspension droop.

I suspect this is an error in the manual, however I also see in the Dino Compendium a picture of an M-series rear brake with the lever/spring at the bottom.
I can see that swapping the calipers side to side would put them in-line with the drawing however the bleed screw would be at the bottom and you'd not be able to bleed them properly.
I searched for some factory drawings hoping to see a definitive answer, can someone help?

    Thanks, Andrew

P.S. The hard line coming out of the caliper in the photo below was just for testing the fittings, I haven't bent them up until I sort this out.

Bleeder screw will always be pointing upward. Unless it's a drum brake VW Beetle with an upper and lower drum brake wheel cylinder.

    Hi Stefan,
Thanks, do you know the manual this pic came from? I have 2 E-series manuals and they both show the lever on the bottom.
At any rate, seems like a production change and the manuals were lagging updates as the manual specifically covering my S/N is wrong it seems…

    thanks Andrew
