I am thinking of replacing the rear badges on my 308 (Euro QV). See attached picture. I've done a quick search on the web and here on f-chat but wonder if anyone here can answer the quick question as to which providers offer up the original metal type 308 badge? I believe the quattrovalvole is plastic, right? I just don't want to downgrade.

The other option is to "restore" these.

    Thanks.

I'm also considering replacing the chrome "Ferrari" emblem on the rear decklid. Mine looks fine but one of the legs is almost broken off and the emblem won't stay in place. Superformance has ones that are 200mm and 203mm. The prices are about 14.5 pounds and almost 90 pounds respectively. Are both the same material, and would both fit ok?

    Thanks,
    -Matt

Sorry, but where do you have that jackstand? That looks terrifying.

I restored mine with some touch-up paint from the local auto parts store (duplicolor) and some mild polish. Came out "good enough" to not even notice. There are some threads on this. It's not that bad because the channel in the badge catches the paint, so you don't need to be a pro. Use painters tape to get perfect lines. Make sure you work on them off the car though under intense light.

I have not bought replacements, so no help there.

    Good luck.

I couldn't find my fourth jackstand. I actually jacked the front up and got underneath to drain coolant from the heater hose, then jacked the rear up higher to drain as much as I could. I didn't get underneath in the back, but as I looked at what appears to be pretty precarious, I leaned on each of the two rear corners and the car was rock solid with that rear jackstand on a cross member and the two up front. :) But again, no, I didn't get underneath the back. :)

The car is presently being detailed (Speedfreak Detailing in Chantilly, VA) and the emblems are going to be removed, so I pondered just replacing them, but it might be better (price dependent) to simply restore them. The three choices are replace with new good OEM quality ones, replace with cheap plastic ones (nope), or restore them (maybe).

    : )

I will mail you one next time! ; )

I've seen a car move sideways in a narrow stall like that before. Almost crushed my friend. Scary stuff...surreal like a car crash when it happens.

That's great that they are removing the emblems. That is the only proper way to detail the rear of the 308 IMHO.

I liked restoring them - but I enjoy detailed stuff like that. As long as they aren't too banged up, you really have nothing to lose except time ; )

The scariest time I've ever had under a car was under the 308. I actually had it on a lift and was working to replace the shift shaft seals which required removing the shift shaft which required loosening a motor mount and lifting the motor a tiny bit, and when we did that the car started moving. I "caught" the car (or else it would have been messy), we resituated, then reassessed the best way to do that.

    That won't happen again!

Interestingly, the 14.5 pound version has a funny script on the "r's" in Ferrari and really doesn't look as appealing (to me at least) as the 90 pound emblem.

I would like to replace mine, also. However, I'm not sure how to secure the new one. Removing should hopefully be easy with plastic pry tools and loving care. However, making sure the new one doesn't rattle is a concern. Perhaps carefully placed 3M automotive double-sided tape would do the trick.

Now that the car is at the detailer I wish I could see it again. Help me out here please....sounds like the 203mm Ferrari emblem from Superformance is the right one (those 'r' letters really do look poor on the 200mm one), but that is $146 (plus shipping). Rutlands has that script (p/n 61025000) at $109 and shipping is likely cheaper domestically (I'm in Virginia). Ricambi has it for $71, I think. Note also that Ricambi lists the clips to secure that Ferrari script for $2.12 each!

Meanwhile, the 308 emblem from Rutlands is $357.45 but from Superformance it is $82. Is this emblem plastic or metal? Is the quality of Superformance's the same as OEM, or are they providing a plastic part to replace a metal part? Ricambi has it for $407!?!

Finally, I'm pretty sure the quattrovalvole script is plastic on my car. $89.06 from Rutlands and $107 from Superformance. Ricambi's price is "call."

    Matt,

Anytime you need to use a four post lift just let me know... You are always welcome here.

Maybe you can show me the tricks to swapping out the shift shaft seals. Mine are leaking pretty badly...

Hey Matt! I looked and there are not any 308 or QV emblems in inventory at Rutlands. New ones are very hard to find apparently. I do have a couple of the small "quattrovalvole" script dash mounted emblems for a Mondial, they do look pretty cool.

    Scott,

I sure could use a 4 post or 2 post lift for my cars, but you've heard me whine about that before. Let me know if you want to attack the shift shaft seals. I think Verrell sells a new bushing for the point where the rod from the front connects to the shift shaft, and that is a key upgrade (I wish they'd been available when I did my job). That bushing (silentbloc) is prone to fail and it a pain to remove unless you get the shift shaft out (I removed the bushing once with the shift shaft still in the car). When it fails, what I mean is the rubber in the bushing disintegrates, which then makes shifting sloppy.

Doing that job is time-consuming, but it is really neat to see how the shift mechanism in the gearbox works. The most important silly thing to remember is that when you take the gearbox bottom cover off some small springs and balls will drop out -- don't lose them. :)

    -Matt...still looking for rear badges......

    Mitch,

Thanks for checking, I was going to call down there, although the price on the 308 badge is beyond what I can justify, so I was going to see if that was really really the price. :) I'm wondering if the Superformance one is a cheap repro and that's why it is less than 25% of the Rutlands price -- do you have any idea?

Someday I'm going to re-engage with you guys -- I've talked with Ted before about options for rebuilding/swapping my motor. I'd like to get new rings for my existing 308 motor but am not sure I have the space/time/expertise to do the rebuild. I want to keep my original Euro motor though -- unless I found a good swap option to put a 328 motor in. I'm still kicking myself for not jumping on the crate motor I negoitated a deal with Malcolm at Ferrari UK for....it was a Euro with all accessories (alt, a/c compressor, starter, heads, etc) for $7700 plus shipping. I didn't "need" it at the time, but boy I wish I'd done that now.

Thanks for doing the research on this Ferrari rear badge. I just called Ricambi and placed an order for the part number 61025000 and 4 clips ( I always lose those small bits and regret when I didn't buy extras) $87 out the door. I talked to Daniel and he was very helpful and confirmed that this is indeed a metal badge. This price sure beats the heck out of $162 + shipping on fleabay. It turns out, they both are metal, but the $162 version has nuts on rear pins to secure badge and the one I bought has clips instead. As long as I don't have the funky "r's" and it's a metal badge, I'm good to go.

You just missed a Ferrari trunk script in our ads for $60.

You will find the 308 rare as the kit replicas used them all, see if FerrParts or Trutlands or even GT Car Parts has a good used one.

I don't believe this is too much of a thread hijack: How do you remove the Ferrari trunk script emblem (Part No 60716800 or 61025000)? It has those two one-way washer clips on the inside. Mine is loose so slowly sawing its way through my paint and I can't figure out how to get those two darned clips off to tighten the emblem.

I just replaced my Ferrari script badge on the rear bonnet lid and 328 - GTS badges today. I purchased the new parts from Ricambi and they are OEM Ferrari parts. Not sure about the 308 but the 328 removal and install is a breeze. Remove the 10 bonnet liner clips and bonnet liner and then remove the 2 plastic grommets that hold down the script. Clean the area and install new script same way old one came out. The oEM part from Ricambi has 2 post that fit in the body holes and 3 pcs of double sided tape affixed to the underside of the script. Replace liner - done. The 328 GTS emblems are simple aluminum badges with double sided tape. Use a hairdryer to heat up the old, remove, clean and stick on new ones nice and straight

I used needle nose pliers to pull off the clips. You will need to replace with new ones.

I cut mine off in-place and replaced them. If they are the kind with the plastic insert with a round one-way washer those are readily available from Ricambi, etc.

I just bought the Ferrari script on the rear decklid with four fasteners (good call to get a couple spare). Still looking to get the 308 badge and the quattrovalvole script for the rear. Superformance confirmed that their cheaper 308 badge is a plastic aftermarket. I guess the best idea is to get mine reanodized/restored. Any experience on how you all did that? I wonder if I could just hand paint the shiny metal black and the white inside just temporarily?

FYI...The part I received from Ricambi was actually the funky r style. Their picture on the website is of the rounded nice r style, so buyer beware. I sent it back and they are very amenable to supply me a full refund. I found the rounded r style badge NOS on fleabay for $50.

Thanks for the heads up. I just did a "live chat" with Daniel at Ricambi and he was confused at what I meant by the "funky r." I sent him pictures from the Ricambi and the Superformance websites and asked him which it was -- he said he'd find the box this afternoon, pull it out, and send me a picture. If it is the wrong script, I'll just cancel the order.

According to Maranello Concessionaires, Ferrari changed suppliers and now all of the deck lid emblems are coming with the new font/script.
Just got one myself and it's a direct Ferrari part. Not sure now if I really want to change it out to prevent it from moving about and scratching the paint.
