Does anyone have a source on the metal "freeze' plug on the bottom of the rear caliper. Mine started leaking and I hate to buy a whole kit just for one part.

    Thanks

If the plug is leaking then you need to rebuild the hand brake system. If you need to do that then you should rebuild the caliper. If you rebuild 1 caliper you should rebuild the other.

I rebuilt this caliper and parking brake about 6-7 months ago and it wasn't leaking then. It just started leaking today. Hard to believe it went bad so fast. It looks to me like I really didn't set the plug well the first time.
SO why did I rebuild the caliper 6-7 months ago, it was a case of while your in there. :)

Search this forum or Tech. I do recall somebody found a source for the blank plugs. It was a few years ago.

The plug is not the seal all it is there for is to keep dirt out of the adjustment screw. If brake fluid is leaking out of the plug then the seal is bad and needs to be replaced. You can get the caliper replacement seal kit from most of the suppliers on this form.

They're called "Welch Plugs" (or sometimes wrongly "Welsh Plugs"), but this is one of the reasons why I'd just send them to PMB for a good result at good value price - JMO (which is getting jaded...:()

For a rebuild, go to PMB. They just did mine and they look great. Car still on jackstands since I may need to do master cylinder and about to do timing belts.
