Rear bumper flat end caps

Anyone know where I can purchase rear bumper (flat) end caps for a 73 GTS U.S. version .

Hi, I've looked around and can't find them as separate items. I could only find them as part of the whole bumper.

 

I can certainly manufacture them for you, but not until end of month.

These are the caps we made.

The only information I am missing, is if the sides taper, as in the caps with the dimple.
Easier to do now, than to re weld or remake.

How are they fastened to the bumpers?

alberto, they have a threaded stud welded inside that attaches to the bumper bracket. when plated care should be taken not to overtighten so as to not pull the stud and create a dimple on the flat surface. dan

 

Thank you Dan, all I need is the location, diameter, and length, not an easy task...
unless someone can kindly send a blueprint, but don't really expect it to happen...

Sometimes I think I should avoid making some parts,
otherwise end up using them in the kitchen

Alberto, I will post a picture of the rusted ones I have tomorrow. I think they are the originals but can't be sure.

why not get them replated ? a good shop should make them look like new.

 

if you can't find someone in your area try QUEEN CITY PLATING (mukilteo wa.) one of the best.

 

Great idea, but they were as bad as an unrestored Dino that sat in a salt mine...

What I don't understand, is why they had lead under the back plate with the stud.

The new ones are much better, almost finished, albeit not chromed, as we cannot do that to 1st world standards.

A final buffing, and they will be ready to go.

alberto, you did a great job on the caps !

 

Chris, I do not have the bumpers that use a flat cap.

I assume there is some kind of "L" bracket inside the bumper that the stud attaches to,

but my guess is that it slips into a hole, then you use the 4mm nut and washer to hold it on.

Thank you! Not easy to make as they distort and the welds take forever to be applied.

At Ferrari, they had someone punch them out, as on the originals no welds, just fold and grind. The complete bumpers are extremely rustic, once you remove the rubber and see the assembly procedure.
Certainly look good once they are finished...

Made another set with the recesses.

Will never make another pair! So far, it has been the most difficult part to make.

A door is easier to make, for that matter, any Dino body part...

Wide angle lens shows a bit of distortion, nevertheless copied from two originals,

they are not exactly the same. Not surprised
