I am considering putting on a body color coded/matching rear challenge grill for my '99 F1 355 GTS. I am looking to do this purely for heat reduction purposes in the engine bay.

What are the opinions of the Ferrari community as to whether there really is significant heat reduction which ultimatley leads to more horespower?

Does anyone have pics of a color matching rear challenge grill on a car to send to me?

honestly, never saw a challenge grill painted same color as the car. as far as heat - deff allows heat to escape.... big difference with it.. i would reccomend big time !!!

Less heat soak in the engine bay, can mean more power as the air charge into the airbox's is not as hot. But not sure if there 100% dyno proof of any power gains at all. :) Colour coding sometimes looks cool. Depends on the colour of the car IMO. Some cars looks average. :) By memory, this red 355 has a coloured coded CH grill. Thats the only pic I have. Looks ok. :)

More power? I have never heard anyone claim that.

It should reduce under hood temperatures some, and with that, reduce some of the heat damage to the various rubber parts. Ever looked at the rubber boots on all the electrical connectors to the fuel injectors and such? Mine are all getting cracked and some are torn...all from the heat.

I agree, for this car the #1 benefit is reducing the heat stress on all the parts back there. #2 there may be some small hp gain due to the air not getting heated so much going through the intake. The only catch with trying to dyno this car is you need two fans pointed at each side intake to keep things cool. I may try something this spring / summer.

PAP you'd better stick to the bikini thread :D

Challenge grill would just provide better engine heat dissipation.

    Just joking ;)
Ofcourse cold air to the intake means more power, but it's insignificant in this case.

no proof, no increase in speed by changing to a challange grill, but i just changed the 3 ecu's at 300 a piece and was told that they go bad due to the heat from the muffler since they surround it and figured its better to change to a challange grill so i won't have to replace them again. just my 2 cents

I will probably end up getting the challenge grill, however, I probably would like to match it the gloss color of my car's body (Titanuim).

As an alternative, I'm also trying to get a hold of Imola's rear grill for 355's.

Does anyone have a source to get Imola's racing rear grill?
