There are excellent threads here on replacing the cable. Try the search function to locate them. There is usually an emergency release pull that you can use. Depends on the model of car which you didn't state.

Your emergency release for the engine bonnet is a small "pull" behind the driver's shoulder, under the vinyl cover for your targa when stored.

The emergency cable is only good if your primary cable to the 1st lock breaks. The emergency cable attaches to the 1st lock and uses the primary cable to pull the second lock. So if you break the primary cable at the latch or between the latch and 1st lock then the emergency cable will work. I just removed the lock bolt on the lid so I don't use the cable. It always stays down and you don't need to worry about breaking out the tail light to open the hood. Hopefully you are able to open the hood. Another option is to take your cable to a motorcycle shop and they usually have clutch cable of the same size which you can buy off of the roll.

Steve, maybe I'm misunderstanding. Do you mean that the hood is not latched hood down at all?

Yep you got it. It is heavy enough that it doesn't even move at normal speeds. I usually don't drive over 60 mph so it's not a problem.

You must have removed the gas struts obviously..I had my struts regassed six months ago and when its called it takes one finger to lift up..as soon as the engine bay gets hot the lid goes up by itself when the cable is pulled.

No gas struts , it's a 77 so we had the prop rod assembly.

Interesting...how do you get the struts regassed? I never heard of that (Note: I have zero mechanical abilities...so I haven't heard A LOT of things).

A guy came out to my house with his van and tried to gas them up... He told me the seals were shot and he was going to put on a pair of replacements..l told him not to worry as l wanted to keep the originals on the car that have the little cavallino on them..He said he could take them away and have them resealed and bring them back a few days later...He charged me $120 for the service..it would have been $80 just for the regas.

I need to look into this...I had the back up at a gathering today. I walked away, and as I looked back, I saw the lid slowly close. Almost looked like I did it on purpose!

Not a good idea. I've left the lid open unintentionally a couple of times and the body flex will cause the hood to rub against the fenders. Maybe mine isn't completely aligned but the margin is very close.

Well you made me go out and check and there are no wear marks. It's been this way for over a year so if I would have had the problem I would see some marks. So without any rubbing I'll keep it this way. Thanks for the tip.

Sounds like a GTS vs GTB flex. Ya think?
