Getting ready to install my new rear challenge grill (should be delivered today) on my '05 360 Spider. But I noticed that with all of the install threads it seems that they lack to tell you that you have to remove the engine compartment panels in order to get to the tail light mounting hardware. Or am I missing something? Should I have just taken that for granted? I want to make sure that I'm not going about this the wrong way. I took a in depth look to see what I have to do and there's panels that cover the outer tail lights. Looks like one of the panels has a airbag label over the seam between the two panels. That will probably get destroyed. This will be my first attempt to modify something on this car and I don't want to f-up my F-car!

You can get replacement warning stickers from the dealer. or just reach in from the bottom to undo the electrical connections going to the lights and swap them from the OEM to challenge grill while on the ground. Do use some painters tape to create alignment marks

Doesn't look like I can get to the screws holding the grill in place from the bottom. It appears that the panel has to come off then the lights then the grill.

You just have to remove the top covers on both sides and loosen 1 screw that hold the large panels at the very edge where the tail lights are. This will give you not easy but accessible to taillight removal. With the tail lights out - you have full access to the grill nuts...

    Hi Mike,
There is always a tried and proven way to do these sort of things and it's not that difficult.
If you go to our website, you'll find a PDF with complete instructions on how to remove and replace the grille panel.
For a couple of additional tips, put some masking tape on the bumper so you don't scratch the bumper. Take particular note of using a bit of BlueTack on the socket, it can spare you from a lot of unnessary work.
    Good luck. :)

I assume you have a Spider as installation on the coupe does not involve removing the engine bay side covers.

Well I have learned my lesson - pay to have this work done! Yes I have a Spider but maybe it has something to do with my age and the humidity and an old back but this 1-2 hour mod took me 4 days or a total of 6 or 7 hours! I did have to take off a few side access covers. The passenger side lights and grille nuts were easy to get to, but the driver side was a f'n b@#ch! My hands were just too big to get in-between the nuts and bolted down parts on the driver side. So, as the story goes, I lost 2 washers and 1 nut - and I was careful! They're somewhere rolling around in the pan. I think God was against me with one of the washers - I got it off the car safely but then fell in a crack in the concrete. When I went to get it it fell into hell! But I did finish and I have to tell you that it looks awesome. We took it for a spin yesterday for about 100 miles in slow and fast traffic and it ran great -no SDL, no heat, and when I pulled into the driveway it was as cool as a cucumber. You could feel the heat coming out of the engine compartment thru the grille. Am I glad I did this. Thanks for all of your inputs - they did help. Can't wait for the next project - new floor mats!

    It looks great.

As Clint Eastwood quoted in Magnum Force “A man has to know his limitations”

You don’t have to know how to fix it, just admire & enjoy driving it.

OK I'm just wondering how many of you have a 360 with a rear challenge grill and never have a SDL on? I was having issues with my SDL on and off for a few months. Now that I have swapped out my grill I am not having any problem with my SDL. If its not the grill could I have mistakenly touched something that was loose?

Slow down light. Although it could have a few leprechauns messing with the light!
