I wonder whether anyone has had a knocking sound at the rear on the right hand side on their California when the roof is up. The sound occurs at low speed over uneven road but once on smooth road it is is fine. It doesn't matter when in the journey so not a function of cold shocks. My car is a 2012 Cali 30.
Both rear shocks and wheel bearings have in the past been replaced so I think I can rule out those. I have even checked the torque on the suspension to chassis bolts and suspension parts and all are in line with specification.
It sort of sounds like the deck lid is moving but that has been adjusted so it latches correctly and if I try to move it, it doesn't make any sound. It like it comes from within the boot but I don't know where.
    Any advice, greatly appreciated.

My 2016 Cali T makes a few roof-related noises on uneven road when the top is up and is fine on smooth road. I've not identified a particular "knocking sound at the rear ..." but attribute the noises to the roof assembly overall and the low profile tires. The level of creaks in my car seems to be the level we might soporifically call a "feature" and ignore. Not sure if yours is more serious. Good to ask around, see what others say, hear a few others if you know fellow owners. If you are new to the car, it may be just getting used to the sounds or perhaps more of an issue.

Only other suggestion coming to mind, let the person out of the boot when you hear the knocking.

Please post what you learn further.

On my California I applied Dupont Krytox to all the rubber/roof contact points (around a dozen locations). I now have zero roof related noises.
