Upon removing the dealer plate I realized it was screwed directly to the bumper. There were two holes simply drilled into the fiberglass. Nor was there sufficient space for the bottom two holes on the plate, so the plate was held just by the top two holes.

This seems rather ad hoc to me, and probably prone to rattle. Is this usual?

    I see that Ricambi sells a bracket, part no. 64497800, here: Ferrari F355 M5.2 (1996+) Parts : Table 126 - REAR BUMPER

It seems that this bracket is affixed with plastic pop rivets then the plate is affixed to the bracket with four screws.

Anyone have any experience with this?

Mine was only attached at the top as well, directly into the bumper. As I recall there were nylon anchors in the bumper that the screws threaded into. No rattles, though I used a metal, black frame, that had two clips on the bottom to secure and support the license plate...that and the two top screws made sure it was rattle free.
