I am trying to remove the rear seats.on my 1978 400 The seat bottoms were not a problem once I figured out that they are secured by a few bolts. I tried to take out the seat back and removed the screws at the base of the seat but was not able to remove the seat. I did not want to force the issue, but is there another screw or bolt that secures the top of the back seat top?

You slide the seats up. It does require some persuasion...

Thanks. Now I feel more confident to pull it up. I was surprised with the seat bottom as most current cars you can just pull up. When it wouldn't budge I ran a mirror underneath and saw the two bolts.

  5. Assuming they are the same as the 412., I recall there are two bolts on the back of the seats that are accessible from the rear wall of the trunk,

There are 3 screws at the bottom, don't forget the centre one, then you slide the rear (squab) backrest upwards.

Thanks. I will check the trunk and see if there are bolts on the Series 1 400's. Don't recall if there were two or three bolts at the bottom of the back and will check.

    Hello
No bolts in the trunk on a series 1 car, just 1 screw each side of the rear squab and 1 up high in the centre of the rear squab.

Since you mention the screw is up high at the center, I am assuming the only way to loosen this screw is through the boot.

Under the centre squab section there is a bucket and the screw is on the cabin side, not the boot side.
It should be a Phillips head screw.

There is a bracket, the screw is in the centre of the bracket, cabin side.
