My interor is almost done. They are putting ot back together, new seats, consol and all.. But..the rear shelf is looking crappy now with all the new stuff.... I was told the rear window has to come out for that.... Is this the case? I really , really dont want to have to take it all apart. Has anyone done this?
I think the quarter windows have to come out(NOT the rear window) and there are some rivits in the engine compartment firewall that have to be drilled out, to remove the shelf- I need to do it too, so I hope someone will give specifics (photos too) I hope. I think you can do a search and get some info about it as well.
search didnt produce much, unless i want using the correct terms. guys at the shop said it was a real PAIN to fix it, and the biggest cost is time. I was going to see if i could find someone who could do it without taking it apart..but not sure if its going to happen. I was thinking though that a talented uphol shop could make a template and then glue it in the back and wrap it under the carpet in the front.. Hell, i bet leather would work since its so thick, you'd not notice any imperfections under it. Then again, I havent really looked closely at it. Wheres that spray on fabric in a can when you need it? haha
The rear shelf on my GTB required rear window removal as well as side windows too. The reason on mine was the vinyl on the top of the shelf at the rear glass wraps around the pinch weld that the rear window gasket.
Has anyone successfully cleaned the rear shelf and b pillar pieces? Without ruining them of course! Thanks, Joe
To remove the rear shelf pieces on a 308 QV GTS, you should remove the side windows to expose the rivets that are under the window gaskets. However, you do not need to remove the rear window. I removed the pieces on my car without removing the side windows by exposing the rivets and knocking off the heads with a sharp chisel. Probably not the best way to go.
