Started in on rear wheel bearing replacement and saw this shock mount right on the edge. Yikes. Oh well. More pics as I open things up. Image Unavailable, Please Login
I've decided to strip the rear suspension. While I could just replace the bearings and button it up I can see that the bushings are all pretty cooked, the shocks need rebuilding, levelers seem to be still levelłing but they will probably be placed on a shelf for the next owner...hoping to have it back together in a month. Wish me luck!
The shock bushes are pressed in at Koni. There is no ring to hold them in. Your rubber just wore out and lost adhesion to the shock sleeve. Ken
Thats what I noticed Ken. Everything is just old and shrunken. hmmm. Now I'm home watching some good baseball and descending the slippery slope of penske shocks vs Koni, changing spring rates, etc. I can confidently predict that I will rebuild the rear suspension on this car one time in my lifetime.
GT, please, please post a lot of pictures on this project. I'm going to be doing the exact same thing to my car this winter.
Once again reminded that working on fasteners that haven't been touched in 35 years isn't fun. Image Unavailable, Please Login
