It's a little thing but one I've always wanted to address. I've had my 355 for many moons but the one thing I keep wanting to get around to is finding an alternative rear view mirror that doesn't sit so low on the windshield. Unfortunately the thing is right in my field of vision and I'm not overly tall. I was curious if anyone has found a mirror that can be swapped out to get the mirror a little higher up and out of the line of sight. The mount looks pretty standard but I'm not even sure where to start looking for something like that. Any suggestions?

I agree it's in the way. I also don't like the winshield wipers in my field of vision so I removed them.
Let us know if you find a solution.

Some BMW and Mercedes models use the same windshield mount.
I've been looking online and found some that will work it's just hard to judge how far down they hang.

You can even get them with homelink and auto dimming that I'm sure wouldn't be all too difficult to wire up. Although the purist would kill me.

Here is a picture of one from a BMW that has a sporty oval shape with all the goodies and very expensive for a mirror about $300 on ebay. Or a more basic BMW mirror on the right for about $40.

*Edit* I just compared the pictures to my stock mirror and it looks like the BMW ones hang down just as much as the stock one.

Lol ... You must be close to 5'9" like me, hate the mirror in my field of view.
On two lane mountain roads with slower right handlers that thing is exactly where I look to see ahead and around the corner. I have a 355 Spider and would love to raise it 3-4 inches so I can see something besides the mirror on a right harder.

I've been wanting to do this mod for years... I was thinking not just a higher hanging mirror, but a much smaller mirror, like on the old english cars where the mirror is sometimes mounted on the dash. The rear windscreen on these cars is so tiny anyway, all we see with that big mirror is our own car!

My car did not have one when I bought it last fall. I added a standard aftermarket mirror with adhesive pad. The darn 3M pad failed and may have been too cold when I applied it. I now have a ding in my ashtray cover because of it. I replaced the pad and preheated the windshield but noticed another fat bubble in the middle of the pad. If this second one fails I will go to a smaller mirror that isn't as heavy and then cut vent slits in the pad like an x pattern to help the air escape when sticking down. That's a really silly fault but clear as day from the outside. I like the mounting angle better since it extends upwards towards the windshield frame rather than down an away. With the universal joint arm you can really raise it up to just under the the headliner/top.

Try not to think of the rear view mirror as an obstruction to your field of view but rather as an addition, along with the side view mirrors, to the total view around you for purposes of situational awareness. It's in the ideal position for a smooth visual scan.
