Rear view mirrors

I have an 08 F430 and have it on mine, was there when I bought it last year

Disappointed of course, not sure there is anything that can be done?

 

My 08 has the same issue. I’ve got a new mirror in the box for when I can’t take it any longer.

 

I took the mirror apart and found it was a single piece beveled glass plate with the silver attached permanently to the back of the glass plate. It was not degrading as I had originally thought. A simple scrubbing with windex and a microfiber cloth cleared it up to my surprise. 2005 F430.

If we are referring to the mirror inside the car, had that on my 2009 when I first got it. Annoyed the crap out of me as it was really the only thing cosmetically wrong other than a little seat bolster wear which I had taken care of. Ordered a new mirror for less than $100 and problem solved.

Yes it came apart with gentle heat from a hair dryer and some iPad disassembly tools spatulas splitters etc that were plastic. However I don’t think you will need to disassemble it because the mirror was a sealed piece of glass prismatic shaped with the silver bonded and sealed on one side of the glass. The night setting is just the surface of the glass and the mirror is the back of the glass either selected with the flip lever. I thought there would be 2 separate pieces of glass but there was no serviceable parts once I had it apart. I then realized that it was a waste of time and a really good scrubbing of the front surface was all that was needed. Unless the silvering has gone bad there was no serviceable parts inside once I had pried the glass piece from the plastic frame. I’d try a good glass cleaner on the surface before trying to disassemble it.

I got it from Ricambi, the part number according to an old email about my order is 65547300
The mirror assembly just slides up and off from the windshield. If you search you can find a thread on this where I asked how it was removed/installed. Took a whole 5 minutes or less to do.

If you have difficulty sliding it up off the windshield button, you can remove it by removing the torx screw that holds it to the support arm. This will allow the mirror frame to separate from the attachment arm. Yes you problem is definitely a silver coating delamination. Good luck. .

 

I'm just excited that there is something on this car I can completely fix in 5 mins that only cost $100! [emoji1]

 

The original mirror (65547300) is no longer available. By now, every mirror should have the problem described above.
Has anyone found a good alternative mirror with similar form and function? Ultimately, it is a simple mirror without dimming function.

Placed an order with scuderia car parts. Will report back with what they say. It's funny that the actual part new costs less than $100, but eBay is littered with damaged used mirrors that are posted anywhere between $140 and $750. Fortunately, the mount is pretty standard fare. If I can't get the factory part anymore, I'll update it with something similar from another OEM that has the same mount.

 

I also placed an order with Scuderia Parts 3 weeks ago and paid around € 100. Have not heard anything since then. In the meantime I placed another order at Ferrari Philadelphia for only $ 30.92 plus shipping. This order is supposed to be on the way.
Question is if these mirrors are NOS and already have the same problem.

 

Did they give you an ETA on shipment? I have another outstanding order but they gave me an estimated stock date since they don't stock a lot of the parts.

My guess is that they're NOS. This isn't a unique issue to these mirrors either, it's a rearview issue in general for convertibles. The new mirrors will suffer from this eventually as well. it’s actually not a standard mount in the USA. It’s an older Fiat mount that’s also used in Peugeot. Not common in the USA.

 

Good to know. But that begs the question, are there any Fiat or Peugeot mirrors that might fit and look the part?

 

Scuderia Parts did not give any ETA on the shipment. Ferrari Philadelphia sent out the mirror among other parts right away. But I will not receive them before end of this month since I am collecting several other car parts from the US for an oversea shipment to Europe.

 

I was surprised by the $30 price on the rearview, but there it was. Started comparison shopping other items I bought from Scuderia Car Parts, but unfortunately, their better prices ended there. For instance, SCP has a parking sensor cutoff switch for $136 while the others had it for $350+

Either way, a better price won't matter if I never get it. A bit of good news though, my previous order had an update to an earlier ship date which is a plus. Still no update on my mirror timing but should hopefully see that by the end of the week.

 

Any news? Did it arrive?

Well, my first order shipped which is a plus. I've received an anticipated stock date of the end of October for the mirror. We'll see what happens and if I get an update before then.
