Hi, since I got my car back from the garage the rear window has developed what look like oil stains in a diamond formation. Could this be caused by heat coming from the engine?

I've tried to clean them off but have had no luck. I was wondering whether anyone else had experienced something similar?

It could be the stains from the tempering prosess when the glass was made.
every tempered glass have them, and you only see it from certain angles.

Is it possible to take a picture or will it not show up? I have a friend who is a very competent auto glass installer.

In stead of posting pics and worry about it, try to compare the stains to any other car there is availble for you, every rear window of any car ever prodused has temper stains. Just compare, if they look anything similar to the other car you compared with, then it is tempermarks. Its from nossels blowing air on the tempered glass to cool it to the right temperature.

Try looking at the glass through polarized sun glasses, and that will show you the tempering patterns.

I agree I think it's 'in the glass' all along, I see them sometimes in mine, maybe the imprint of the wire rack during tempering??.....It looks like the diamonds of an expanded metal grate.....

    Drive on.....

Thanks guys, I've only just noticed and couldn't figure out whether I had simply overlooked it before or whether it was new.
