Any suggestions for reapplying the rearview mirror to the windshield? The whole thing fell off and wondered if anyone had tips on products and or methods used with success or not. I bought a Permatex adhesive kit, but it says to only use on "Metal Buttons", which is what most other cars use, but not these Prancing Horses...

    Thanks,
    Chris

The shop knocked mine off...look closely, there IS a sub base part.

Pop that off, use the standard adhesive, then once cured a day or so, pop the unit back in to the plate.

The secret is to get ALL contaminants off the glass first, steal some finger nail polish remover from the wife, or find pure acetone (which most nail removers are based upon..

Porsche 914 and Lancia Scorpion/MonteCarlo uses the same mirror base.
So, maybe a Porsche dealership have the adhesive for their 914 mirror.

I'd like to know, too. Only my mirror is still firmly on the windshield. I'd just like to detach it so I can clear the dust off the interior elements.

A vigorous pull is all what's needed. If the base also gets detached from the glass, it would have anyway needed a fresh proper installation and would have dropped sooner or later.
It's designed to fall apart in case of an accident, before it hurts one's head severly.
Nevertheless I once got a small cut on my forehead, when I accidently knocked the mirror off while working on the interior.
Happened because of the sharp edged back of the bezel. When all mirror parts are apart, it's recommended to deburr these edges a little bit.
