To start with, before anyone starts throwing rotten eggs after me...I have owned a 328 GTS: loved it but missed the lack of power.
Have owned a 355, loved it, but missed the simplicity of the 328.
Own a 550 today, and yes, it is a great car, but for me it is a bit too perfect. Hold on now for what I am about to say: it is almost like driving a BMW M5 or AMG. Doesn´t feel very "sporty", a bit too perfect, and too sophisticated (to my taste that is...).

My dilema: my absolute dream car when it comes to the looks is the 288 GTO. But, and I say but, even if someone should caugh up the money to buy the car for me, it is still a bit of a shame to put many miles on such rare car.

    So my idea is following:
I want to drive a Ferrari a lot (and I mean putting thousands of miles on it every year). I want to have the looks and I want to have a powerful and reliable car (and engine).
To my question: has anybody out there rebodied a 308 / 328 GTS (I prefer the open top, and I know the GTO wasn´t), to a GTO, and also had the engine changed to something more exciting ?

    Experience to share ?

    Regards
    Anders

There have been many treads about this, if you click "search" then "advanced search" and search for "GTO" in thread titles in the 308 section you'll find this (my project on top):

There are several 288-ish conversions ( Carpenter, et.al.) out there, and the panels for the conversion are available (try Berlinetta Motorcars). It sounds like you are not so much into a project but rather a completed car, and they are around, even occasionally on eBay. And typically, they have been hopped a little or quite a lot - often with forced induction, with well over 300 hp.
Norwoods in Dallas does a lot of turbo conversions and may know where some are.

This shouldn't be too hard if you have a modicum of resources.

    Great job !
Just wonder why we don´t see more of this on F´s ?
Every 2:nd Porsche seems to be rebuilt (GT2 optic, Turbo wing etc etc)

Yeh, I know the obvious answer from some of you: "-when you drive the ultimate car, you don´t have to turn it in to soemthing else.. The P guys are "wanna bee´s" trying to make their VW look more exciting..."

-Eeeeehhh, well, I used to drive a 911 too some years ago....
