    Hello,

I have come across a 348 which I believe to be a challenge car based on some remaining bits inside the car and what I can see on parts diagrams. This car is totaled beyond repair. I have discovered that at least at one point, Ferrari would sell a body in white and most all chassis parts that one could rebuild a car from even 1/3 of its pieces, if someone was that ambitious, talented and that determined to save a rare car. As these cars get older, and the values rise, it wouldn’t surprise me to see something like this as we see it all the time with old Porsche’s. People buying a useless shell just for the title. This example is not far from that last statement.

What I have is a 94 model, with effectively nothing at all left on it as it was picked through by who-knows before I retrieved it from the crusher (literally). I do have a title, clean and clear somehow, and the engine bay is structurally there but in front of the firewall it is a total disaster. There is *nothing* left on this car but maybe a strut and ABS pump and half of a steering rack.
The only way I can see this working is to get a blank chassis from Ferrari or enough parts to take what little is left and make a new car. Making a new person from a leg is the best comparison.

Please do not ask the story, it’s not a good one though many years have passed. I’m a sentimental guy and if I had the kind of ability it would take to pull this off, I might attempt it to save a cool car.

My intent is to determine if that particular ambitious person exists, and if it’s possible, figure out a scenario to get some of the structure and title to that person so that maybe the car can see new life via a fresh body.
Please understand that this is just a wild, crazy idea and I would rather find out a definitive answer than make the decision myself and hear of a person later down the road that would have had the ability to do something with this. Had this been a less desirable model, I would not have bothered making this thread. Also, I’m a car enthusiast and like revival stories. I had been offered a 308 many years ago that needed restoration that I still wish I would’ve gone for, but I wasn’t in a position to do so.

The car is located near Woodinville Washington and I am trying to be as respectful about this car and it’s scenario as possible. If anyone needs pictures, please contact me direct as I do not want to make these public for those reasons.

Eurospares had a lhd new bare shell a while go, it may still be there.

Financially it would never be worth it, the sum of the parts required would be far greater the value of the finished car.

Its only rare cars where the "essense" of the ID has a value over an above the value of the components required. A 348 will never enter that realm I am afraid.

Use it as a the basis of a one off if anything, an ebay special track car etc using a hand made outer skin, and an alternative engine, such as one from a late Maserati.

The only person who would want that ID is someone dubious who has a stolen 348 and needs a legit ID to transfer the parts into.

What is the serial number of the car? I can check my records to see if it was a Challenge car that raced in the US?

Keep in mind that even if this is a genuine 348CH that raced in the series and it has a great, documented history, real Challenge parts are hard to come by, so restoring it to "as raced" condition will be a huge undertaking. Although I appreciate the desire to rescue a cool Ferrari race car (assuming arguendo that this is in fact the case), I doubt this project could ever be justified from a financial point of view.
By the way, you might consider moving this thread to the Challenge section.

Nope......you can buy a rare Tommy Hilfiger 355CH right now in the ads.

That price is FAR less than you would spend to rebuild what you have.
Now if you already had a STREET 355, maybe a total swap over to build it would be feasible, but even then really not worth the effort, IMO

Not to make anyone angry, but it was a Challenge Package added to street cars, excepting the very few factory Built Challenges.
Send the VIN via PM as asked above, and see what you are really looking at...

Odds are its a dealer conversion.

Dealer conversion, if the car actually has a race history could still be of value. Most of us with 348 Challenge cars that raced in the series back in the day have cars that were converted.

Post some pics as well, if you dont mind.

VIN sent to Jason. It could have been a dealer conversion, although I’m not sure how to tell. Battery disconnect was present at the passenger foot well and it had the correct cage and harness attached points as well.

The chassis is so mangled that nothing in front of the aft firewall can be used.

If this was a dealer conversion, I am going to let the remaining part of the chassis go to scrap. If this has pedigree, I am hoping somebody can figure out a deal on this and I will cut it down to the back half for easier transporting.

Jason I will PM you a picture of the car directly.
