I would think a LOT less than that. Ask to see prior pictures of the damage, google the VIN.

 

Yeah that’s an absolutely ridiculous price.

 

Rebuilt means it *may* get a clean title when it changes hands— which means it’s possible to finance.

I think your $70k number is too high. Personally. Don;t misunderstand; I'd LOVE to see you single-handedly begin the $$ appreciation $$ of the F430 by paying that much for an R-titled car. But as a friend (are we friends here? ;-) ) I'd tell you that's too much.

It's less about the damage that the car experienced, because ALL damage can be repaired. If it was repaired correctly I'd have no qualms over that. It's more about the actual value of the car. If we define value as "the amount the car would sell for today", I think you'd take a really, really big hit.

However: if you never intend to sell, and this is the nicest car within your self-imposed-budget, then maybe value is defined another way for you.

I would think the rebuilt title puts you in a massive bargaining position. Exotics not having a clean Carfax generally seem to suffer quite a bit on resale value and turn over much more slowly even when the damage hasn't been that significant. If you do a little research, you'll find a fair amount of information on "diminished value" claims against insurance companies trying to get by with offering to just pay for repairs when it's clear that an equivalent car with a clean Carfax will always be the first choice vs. one with a damage report. That said, there's still a few other areas of concern to look closely at on a used 430 besides OEM headers that would make a PPI a good first step that could give you even more bargaining power .....or convince you to look elsewhere.

 

Too many good options in the mid $80’s range to go with a rebuilt title with potential unknown issues. I wouldn’t pay more than $65-70k for a rebuilt titled F430 in a condition that appears comparable to market priced clean title. Wholesale on clean title is roughly $65k.

If there is anything consistent about rebuilt title cars, it is that the seller's reason for the salvage title is drastically understated.

I'm not saying I would never buy one, but I would want to see photos of the damage along with photos of the repair to consider the car.
