Owners and dealers will be notified by December 6, 2020

    Manufacturer
    Ferrari North America, Inc.

Number of potentially involved : 1,063 Estimated percentage with defect : 100 %

    Production Dates : JUL 20, 2017 - JUN 15, 2020
(indicates production after June 15 2020 is unaffected because problem was corrected, there probably very few USA bound 812SF with a later production date)

Chronology : Ferrari received reports of a possible issue with the rear window of the 812 Superfast through its Authorized Dealer Network. The first instance that Ferrari is aware of occurred in Germany on May 11th 2020. Two other cases were reported and both occurred in Germany on May 21st 2020. No other problems were reported from any other markets. At that point, Ferrari started a thorough investigation involving, of course, the supplier of the component Saint-Gobain Sekurit Italia S.r.l. Ferrari continued to investigate the potential cause(s) of this problem for a number of months in an effort to determine a root cause, if any. On September 21st 2020, Ferrari completed the analysis on a sample of vehicles on production and found that the defect was potentially caused by an error in supplier’s production concerning the non-cleaned glass bonding area on bodywork. Ferrari continued to further analyze the issue on the production line and Ferrari ultimately determined that the problem of the component could entail the full detachment of the rear window from the vehicle, thereby potentially creating a road hazard and increasing the safety-risk of a crash for following traffic. During a meeting of the Ferrari Product Committee held on September 30th 2020 the decision was to launch a recall campaign worldwide.

there you go, total 812SF production for USA: 1063

I want to know at what speed the problem occurs. I don't think it's 60 or 80 mph.
So deep into triple digits or what?

If you look where the incidences have occurred is in Germany. That is where they have the autobahn and most likely the vehicles were travelling in excess of 150 miles an hour where it is legal.

I have yet to have my rear window fly out at 150mph. But good to know I probably shouldn't do that until it's fixed

Mine has hit some relatively high speeds and no issues. Of course, it has been on the track.

Will tape my rear window, just in case ;-)

Had the 812 Superfast several times way above 200 mph in Germany and till today no issues. But let’s see what the dealers will say.

Actually doesn't that include Canada since it's FNA or is this just the USA notification?

Good question, NHTSA only issues recalls for USA, Transport Canada issues for Canada.
    https://tc.canada.ca/en/search/site?key=ferrari

I presume the count (1063) is for USA, Transport Canada has no recall listed ..yet, if/when it does will be interesting to see what count of affected vehicles it shows

Windows up or down? Additional air pressure from Force of exterior air may contribute to issue.

I'll be curious if my car is part of the recall as it was finished June 18th 2020. If so, then this recall doesn't encompass all 812 SFs produced for the USA. But I'd guess there's 1,100 or less produced for the USA.

The VIN range attached to this recall is ZFF83CLA0J0232696 to ZFF83CLA0K0238547

My serial number is 257794, which falls drastically outside these serial numbers. My car is a MY2020 and completed production June 18th, 2020 which is just after the production date cutoff. I'd guess that 1,063 units is a little soft just because the serial number gap is pretty big. For what it's worth, my VIN was assigned while Ferrari's factory was still closed.

Maybe? According to the NHTSA document I fall outside of the VIN range and the date range. However, my car started production end of May 2020, which Ferrari states they completed their investigation September 21st 2020. Of course they could have identified the cause before then and fixed it, but with only roughly a month of lead time from start of investigation to my car being done on production it's got me a little skeptical.

Also, with your car being finished June 3rd 2020, what's your serial number? Last 6 of the VIN.

Check your assembly number. In the recall document last assembly number concerned by the recall is noted 178370. The last VIN indicated in the recall document seems very strange as it's an early 2019 MY car.

I know the VIN range on the NHTSA bulletin is 100% inaccurate, not sure why Ferrari would not include accurate data, but a simple scan of VINs on any pre-owned cars for sale website will easily bear that out.

I doubt there would be more than a couple dozen or so with production date after yours, if that many.

My VIN for my 2018 488 which was produced in Sep 2017 was 230145 so I don't think that VIN range is correct.
