hello everybody. i have been lurking here for ~4 months but have never posted - so here goes...

a quick background - i live in san diego and i recently bought my first f-car - 1985 Mondial Cab - ~4 months ago without knowing hardly anything about Mondials or Ferrari's in general - so I probably did not get the best deal. But regardless I have never regretted the decision and have enjoyed the hell out of driving her and have been learning tons thanks to you all!

after learning about Gary Bobileff here at f-chat i brought the mondial in for a CV boot replacement and annual fluid/filter service. After listening to the engine Gary recommended that I bring the car back the following week and have the ignition wires checked. In the end we ended up replacing the ignition wires along with 2 plug extenders.

All I can say is that I am not sure what I was driving before but it sure as hell was no f-car - i guess ignorance is indeed bliss. After the above mentioned service it feels (and sounds) like I am driving a completely different car. Since the service last week I have actually gotten out of bed twice and gone for a drive in the middle of the night - obsessive? perhaps. excited? definitely!

I am now reading as much as I can on majors with the hopes of having it done sometime next year.

Attached is a picture of my very first Ferrari!

Congratulations to you both - no better place to own and drive a mondial convertible than SD! Such perfect weather and roads and scenery for top down fun. Enjoy!

Congratulations! Looks beautiful! I love my Mondi too. Glad the TLC really improved her. By the way, is that the original rubber on those wheels?

I do know San Diego is a great place to drive....but I kept thinking about my car when I drove accross Germany last year - in a small very underpowered rental car....The autobahn beckoned, I stepped on the gas....and sputtered foward....;=) - So I would say SD is the second best place....but can't complain...cheers

I had the same experience with my Mondial. Same situation as you, naive first time F-car owner, and the car had been serviced by a cut-corners mechanic who botched the ignition system.

New wires, boots and extenders, a tune up, and the car drove like a dream.

Congrats, enjoy the purchase, and keep posting them pictures!

The PO did put on new rear tires when I bought the car. The front tires have some mileage on them but still have some ways to go. Since the PO did not maintain good records I am slowly in the process of putting the car into a "known state".

Gary is a top notch guy!!! He did a major on my 348SS when I had it, and his boys can turn some wrenches!

Congrats on the purchase, and enjoy the weather out there.

Miguel, yup, you're right - there's one or two better places, but SD is hard to beat. I recall some high speed driving in the south of France and Italy that was pretty nice too. Then again, just trundling along somewhere on a quiet back road of tuscany would be pretty special too.

    Enjoy!

ps. I have a place in Oceanside.

I hope you enjoy your Mondial! Looks great!
Did the PO install a better than stock exhaust (Tubi, Stebro, etc)? That and a cat bypass will also make it feel like it has 2 more cylinders!

Congrats on a nice looking car, drive and enjoy her. Open top motoring is the best, while not a full convertable, I drive with my 328's top off about 90% of the time.

David - thanks for the tip. The Mondial currently has a stock exhaust. I have just started reading up on aftermarket exhaust systems and hope to get to it one day. It is currently low on my list of todo items.
