    Good day ferrarichat forum!

I recently purchased a CPO (power train warranty) 2013 FF from Ferrari of Salt Lake. The car has 52k miles but a clean carfax and excellent service history. I had the car for about a week when the trouble started. When selecting reverse the manettino failure, all-wheel drive failure, traction failure, default to ‘wet’ setting, and vehicle will not upshift beyond fourth. If I take off from a standstill and do not select reverse there is no problem.

A little background. When I received the car it was fitted with an aftermarket head unit and a huge subwoofer installed in the rear. Ferrari of Salt Lake just cut the wires but did not remove any hardware. The amp for the system is huge. As a result, there was electrical ‘humm’ noticeable when the stereo was turned on. I unplugged the amp with the hopes it was just pushing the sub and the interference would go away. It was powering the whole system so I ended up plugging it back in. It was on a subsequent road test the problem occurred.

I had a new factory battery installed to make sure it wasn’t a low voltage issue. No luck. I had the car towed to MAG as the car has the power train warranty so I figured it was worth putting it in dealership hands. They’ve had the car over seven weeks and have ultimately indicated they’ve exhausted their capabilities.

I’m not looking to assign blame anywhere. Ultimately, the car is mine and it’s my problem. My issue is I’ve had the car for eight weeks, seven of them at the dealer. The dealer basically says they can’t fix the car. That’s not really an option. I can’t just walk away from a six figure purchase. The car has to be repaired. I want to send the car to someone that has the time and patience to properly fix my car. Looking for any shop recommendations, dealer or independent.

    Thanks

    Tyler

Sorry to hear that you're dealing with this. My local (Denver) Indy shop is Maranello Motorworks. Bill is a one man show but knows his stuff. He was able to track down an electrical gremlin I had as well. If everything local fails, he might be a good plan B? Above you'll find his website link. Good luck!!

Is MAG a Ferrari dealer or a multi brand dealer? Seems crazy to me that they say they can’t fix it. Maybe you have the whole after market radio/speaker system removed. Sounds like a glitch versus actual mechanical issue since it only happens in reverse. Sorry to hear Anker the troubles, really frustrating and on a reliable car. Hope it sorts out quickly.

it’s had two of them already. The last about 5k miles ago. In theory, that would be covered under my warranty.

    Apparently not covered anymore?

To the OP it’s an electrical gremlin. Did they change your battery again ?

    Suggest sending to another dealer
Such as Ferrari of Salt Lake. If they balk, It’s time to negotiate on the purchase and credit towards another vehicle. If that conversation goes nowhere then I would consider speaking to an automotive /consumer attorney.

Here’s the thing the inspection that Ferrari requires for the new power warranty includes electrical system inspection. So there was some assurance of quality which immediately failed.

Push gently but firmly. Ask what options they would consider to make this right. You’d be surprised.

I’ve never heard of the lemon law applying to used vehicles.

Battery was first changed and a stop light switch was replaced. Neither addressed the symptoms. MAG contacted me yesterday recommending a factory head unit, amp, a couple of speakers and some CAN/BUS stuff. Estimate is $36k. I’m sending the car back to the selling dealer to let them address the issue. I think they’re motivated to see a fair solution and have been very nice and responsive. I’ll get it back to them to get it fixed as I’d still really like to try and enjoy the car.

    Good luck.

Once my battery was changed with a defective battery.

Sounds like the selling dealer will try to make it right

    I’m
Sorry for your experience. The downside of Ferrari can be service. Hard to get parts expensive and long service times. And heart breaking when it’s a new acquisition. Let us know how it gets resolved.

Well, the saga seems to be coming to a close, nearly four months after it started. The car was CPO’d with issues that would clearly void a warranty. Ultimately, I asked that the car be fixed to CPO standard or purchased back. They opted to buy the car back at the purchase price minus shipping charges. So, for four months I was out $130k, got to drive the car about 300 miles, fight for an fair solution, and spend $4k in shipping. Not the best ownership experience but I’d say it could have gone much worse.

Considering what happened, it’s great news (getting your money back). How could an official dealer do such a crappy job with a CPO certification? But it happened more than a few times as confirmed by various Fchat members (I had started a thread asking if someone buying from an F dealer should do a PPI, the answer being yes). Did you have a PPI done before the purchase or did you trust the F dealer due to the CPO? Glad to hear the update :)

That's the thing, you shouldn't have to have a ppi if buying a cpo car from a f dealer. This type of behavior from the dealer should be reported to Ferrari and they should have the franchise removed from them.

I did not perform a PPI, trusting the CPO process would have me covered. Ferrari is aware of the situation which I’m fairly certain is the only reason I got my money back.

And why should you have gotten a PPI, in order for a vehicle to get a CPO it goes through the "rigorous" certification process o exact "Ferrari standard" that can only be met at a dealer and yadadadada bs they sell us on. This is unacceptable and you should have paid you for the shipping and even more. Completely inexcusable. We should create a thread that list the F dealers that continue with unacceptable practices such as this one.

Read my saga with Ferrari of San Antonio and the CPO FF they sold me. CPO doesn’t mean anything to Ferrari other than you have a warranty. There are no clear standards for many of the items on their checklist. My car had a dented fender with $10k estimate to repair and the entire interior leather was ruined. Checklist said both were satisfactory. .
