Just got my bid on recharging some parts. Thoughts? 4 bumper parts $425.00 each 2 bumper end caps $25.00 each License plate frame, license plate light housing, cup $350.00 Wheel center caps $600/set
The numbers are quite a lot higher than what I have seen. Bumpers are normally about $250 each End cap price is ok Again the plate frame and light at $350 is high assuming there is no metal repair to be done Wheel center caps are stainless steel and should be polished not chromed. Either way at $600 you are better off buying replacements and eBaying your other ones.
We are in the same situation with a huge spread on chrome bids. Shop quality and reputation over pricing. You do not want to do this again anytime soon.
I agree! Going "cheep" kills you in the long run. I never skimp. It is just not worth saving a few cents only to have to re-do it later.
On a complete restoration of an Italian car from this period, it is not unreasonable for brightwork to be the third or fourth most expensive category of work to be done (depending on the condition of the car). On my '69 Dino, the order was 1) Body/Paint 2) Mechanical/Electrical 3) Interior 4) Brightwork I can't say enough good things about Queen City Plating up in Mukilteo Washington - great quality at a commensurate price. More than a few Pebble Beach winning cars are sporting brightwork done by QCP. It's been 10+ years since my restoration and the brightwork on my car still looks great. Cheers, Keith
