993 or 930 turbo. up to the daily mileage and a very comfy drivers position.

so fun it will wake you up in the morning drive in and will re-awaken you on the drive home!

nice sports cars..i have owned a 993 and driven the 930 turbo extensively...for a 120 mile commute, i would never use an aircooled p car....too noisey, the engine drones loudly at higher , steady rpm....the great porsche sound becomes loud and annoying...probably would cause some high frequency hearing loss day after day, hour after hour....i know, i have been there....

Spend $25k and get a moderately used 01-02 Boxster S. Drop top fun, good power, handles and brakes to perfection. Reliable.

    Save the other $25k.

    One man's solution.

Do you really want a third pedal to commute 120 miles p/day?

A "fun" daily driver under $50k... for me its a new Corvette hands down. Options might take it just over $50k but its worth it. Its has sports car good looks and its fun to drive, and you can still fit a couple golf bags in the boot. Not to mention I think they are very comfortable, and get pretty good gas mileage.

Please don't tell me you mean that Z3 looking car with the station wagon back... ewe. The Z3 is a chick car anyway.

Around here, most Z3's are driven by men. Seen the Z8 on the street a few times and it's always driven by women.

Roadster means drop top. The abortion of which you speak is the coupe.

Don't call a 315 hp drop top a chick car.

If you want to be slightly more practical at the same price point and dealership, check out a Legacy GT. I just picked mine up last night, and boy howdy, what a great car. A new, loaded car won't break $35k, and the performance #'s are pretty impressive as well:

0-60 under 6 (depending on trans.)
    manual transmision
    all-wheel drive
    sedan or wagon
    good gas mileage (19/25 city/hwy)
    great value

Volvo s60 is good especailly if you need awd and safety/luxury. I like them anyway. A used porsche would be fun also!

I second that - used under $40k in great shape. Tons of fun, I still enjoy more than m5 but I know I'll take some heat for that.

If you want a great mid-engine daily driver, get a car from Loyde in Dallas TX. For less than $15,000 you can get either a 5-speed Fiero with a supercharged 3800 or LS1 V8 automatic that will put to shame almost everything on the road. Expect to get somewhere around 250 hp and 30+ mpg with the 3800SC. www.fastfieros.com

Park a 308 next to one with the trunks and hoods open and you might cringe when you see how similar the layout is. There are also a lot of aftermarket parts for the inside, outside, and suspension that can make the car as nice as you want it to be. Also you don’t have to be a contortionist to get into and out of it.

You will have to get past the fact that it is not what you would normally consider an exotic but the fun factor is high with the later model SEs, and the 88 GTs/Formulas. Most of my neighbors think it’s a Ferrari anyway. Stay away from the 84s. Get an 87 or newer.

I thought the Fiero was the next best thing in my price range, plus it’s an American car, so I bought one. No fires, no regrets. The car is affordable, fun, and the spaceframe is very safe.

hell yes! ...it's so boring otherwise. i put 30k miles on my first Z06 that way and enjoyed every minute of it!

mmm, never thought of that, shame on me! 'cause you know i love the LS6-- two Z06s'll do that to a person. i've never driven one, but my cousin has and he says it pulls like my Z! a definite possibility...

    TestShootCom,
i like the first picture of the volvo-- very cool! looks like a nice car. a friend has like 5 80s vintage volvos. all have 250k miles or more and still run pretty good!

    M5
now there's an idea! i just test drove 3 3-serieses (a 330ci, 325xi, and a 330 sedan- forgot what they call it). all sticks and all were very nice. dealer also has a 01 M3 that looks real fine too. was seriously considering one of these until y'all had to go and mention the M5. ;) i've always been attracted to M5s-- i'll have to do some ebay research. any years better than others or more specifically any years to AVOID? this one is a definite possibility....

    Mondial
i'm surprised only one F-car got a vote... i take it its because the older ones are tempramental and $$ to fix for a daily? still, i think it would definitely be FUN!

    Audi RS6
i thought this one might be cool despite prolly being an automatic only. one drove past me while i was walking to lunch one day and it sounded great! another candidate.

    993 or 930
there was a white porsche of that body style (excuse my ignorance when it comes to p-cars) up for sale near my house about 6 months ago. i don't think it was a turbo, but it was a BEAUTIFUL car. needless to say it wasn't there for long. i'm still kicking myself for not moving on that one and i'm not a real big porsche fan, but that car was immaculate....

    mercedes?
i'm surprised there aren't any MBs mentioned. i just got back from europe and while i was there rode in many of them (all the taxi's were diesel mb's). all had very nice interiors and were very solid. i figured put a nice v8 in one with a 5 speed and it would make a nice candidate... someone said 430, i think? i know even less about mb's.
