What the hell material are these things made out of anyway?

Why couldn't they just use old fashioned CHROME?

When I bought my car the tail pipes where a little ligher and darker in spots, almost stained.

Is there a way to get them back to a consistant color all over? What do you guys use to clean these things?

The can be buffed clean, but they will eventually discolor again. I think people have used aluminum polish and lots of elbow grease. Other people have replaced the entire tip assembly with Tubi tips. Not sure what that option would cost these days, but I suspect $1000+

If you want nice chrome tips that will not discolor, we have these (manufactured by Hill Engineering, in England. No outsourcing, entirely English manufacture ;) )

One note: they are held in place with two grub screws coated with a pressure activated loc-tite. They really need to be snugged for the loc-tight to activate and form a semi-permanent mounting.
