I've been holding off on buying one of these; there are too many different formats and no homologation, yet. But... my TIVO is getting filled to the brim with stored F1 races and I really need to get them saved somewhere else. Hate the idea of putting the races on videotape - that's so 1998!

What's the best recorder to get??

Personally, I'd get a Lite-On LDW-851S. It's an 8x dual format (DVD-R, DVD-RW, DVD+R, DVD+RW) drive and with updated firmware, it can also write to DVD+R DUAL LAYER discs (!!!!!!!). That's pretty much the best drive I've seen out there right now. You should be able to find it for under $100, too.

Here's the discussion and link to the updated firmware...

Edit: I just noticed that you didn't specify if you were looking for a standalone recorder or computer drive. For a standalone recorder, I have no idea.

Yes, I was looking for a component for my home theater. Thanks for the input, though.

SONY has two fairly decent models. Sony DVD Recorder RDR-GX7 and RDR-GX300. They are a little on the expensive side but have DVD+RW -RW -R +R DVD format recording capability. This helps because you dont have to deal with the recorder not being compatible with one or the other type of dvd.
