Sorry for the random-ness of this post, but my brother is moving into a new home in Wilsonville, Oregon, and being relatively new in the area is unfamiliar with any reputable stores for furniture. I live in Southern California so I'm not much help, I thought seeking any advice or recommendations from F-chatters in the area would be nice (especially considering the taste in auto's and the financial-smarts that goes with being able to have such a fine car).

He's not into 'antique' styled furniture or anything bordering on modern-art, just any shops that you guys had good experiences with, and decent selection/pricing. We're both kind of lost in this type of shopping as this is his first home, and never had to go through this process.

    Any suggestions/comments would be welcome.
-I think he's looking for a L-shaped ultra-suede couch, rectangular leather ottoman in lieu of a coffee table, and a simple round dining table w/seating for 6, if that helps any.

    Thanks in advance,
    Will.

I had this same question when I moved to portland a few years ago. I ended up purchasing most of my stuff from Dania.

They have a nice mix of cost effective prices, decent quality (but not the best) as well as a decent purchasing experience... Which most furniture stores do not... The ones that make you feel dirty in the end.

Crate and Barrel at Bridge Port in Lake Oswego has some very cool modern furniture on the upper floor.

I also buy contemporary furniture for my house. Dania isn't bad for decent furniture and very reasonable prices. If you want better things and don't mind paying for it, you might also try Furnish and Roche Bobois (sp) downtown Portland. I bought a couple things from them a year or so ago. There is also a place near the convention center (maybe on MLK?) that has quite a bit of contemporary furniture. I think they also have another location out in LO, but I don't remember the name of the place.

I believe West Elm has a store in Portland. The company sells pretty nice contemporary furniture. I have a couple things that I've mail ordered from there.

I purchase alot of my furniture from both Andrew's and Crate & Barrel, both are fairly close together. Andrew's can order many things that are hard to get ahold of.
