I have a couple of worn-looking seats I'd like redone. In northern California, whether Bay Area and north, Sac. Valley, or even Reno or Chico, who is recommended for leather work? I have heard of Cook's in Redwood City, but those remarks have been sort of mixed.

Apart from wanting good workmanship, there are a couple types I'd like to avoid: chronic procrastinators and high-strung artistes.

    Thanks,
    David

I would highly recomend Award Interiors in Sacramento. The work these guys do with both leather and cloth is phenomenal. If you're in the area, I would suggest stopping by and checking out their shop. They are always working on something interesting wether its English, Italian, or German. Dan and his crew have been in the business for years and they are some of the most personable and professional guys in the industry. In addition, their rates are extremely reasonable and turn-around time is very, very quick.

Check out Hank's Upholstery/Trim in Alameda, CA. He does everything from ordinary everyday drivers, custom cars, to high end concours cars. He has been in business for years and takes pride in his work. Prices are very reasonable for the quality of work that is done. I've used Hank's a number of times myself, and I've recommended his shop to a number of people.......everyone was very happy with the quality of work and the service! Here is the contact info:

My name is Craig Lynch and I own Cooks Upholstery. We have a dedicated staff of professionals who have been producing award winning interiors for many years. In addition, we are the preferred repair facility for Ferrari-Maserati of Silicon Valley and GP Enterprises.

We do our best to ensure that our customers are completely satisfied. Unfortunatley, there are those who may not be satisfied and feel uncomfortable addressing their concerns. This is often the cause for mixed reviews about a business or product.

I welcome the opportunity to address any questions or concerns that you may have about our work.

    Best Regards,

Thank you guys for responding. I live in the Sierra Foothills, so Sacramento is convenient. However, the car is in the Bay Area getting serious work right now (and for at least a couple more months), so Redwood City is also convenient. I will visit both businesses. Alameda is a little bit out of the way for my schedule and travels, but I will keep Hank's in mind. Ya' never know . . .

    Thanks again,

    David

Is this for a newer car or 60's car?

1980s, which is now classified as "older" but far from "vintage."

Well, in my opinion, the best in the business is Stuz Upholestry and he's up your way. Piles of first place, pebble beach, etc. stuff for years. The guys has volumes of original Ferrari leather, vinyl, carpets, etc., etc. to do period correct stuff. I've tried just about everybody and he's the best I've found.

The only catch is that he's very, very busy and may not be able to get to it for a while. And, he's not cheap.
