Recommended 360 Performance Upgrades?

    Maybe the power to weight ratio will be the same, but it still lacks 0.7 liters of displacement. ;)

    It was even worse when I blew past a LP560 with its creamy V10 in my petite 3.6 v8 er...

    Surprised Lambo driver, "Dude I've got 2 more cylinders than you and a lot more power... WTF is going on!?"....

    To the OP, the good news is that it's a Ferrari and it's already pretty correctly built in stock form for performance driving. So your few upgrades are really all you need to have a very enjoyable car. Get the alignment properly set and the cams properly degreed so you know it's running correctly and you're good to go.

    These cars aren't like a BMW or other production 'performance' car where there are performance and ride compromises all over the place that you need to tweak to make them truly perform. Even though the Ferrari 360s are now over a decade old, they are still solid drivers cars - unlike the mass produced cars which need all sorts of upgrades.

    Since you brought it up... is a 430 that much of an upgrade? I looked back at some weight information... (our US cars are pudgy!) Anyway for my fully optioned/lightly modified car, I think I'm already marginally lighter than a 430, have another easy 80lbs to shed (seats), and I wonder how far off on HP I really am behind... I'll get to a dyno next week I hope. What is the price for a manual 430 these days? :)

    Manual 430 ...$150k+ ....add twin turbo yo 360 and still have money left ...

    Which lighter weight(does need to be super light) seats that recline you recommend ?

    Stock CF racing seats are lighter than the stock electric (daytonas) - but I think I might go with fixed back seats like trev has...

    F430 isn't just more powerful. It has the e-diff and other refinements that make it a better performing car. Ferraris aren't about getting more horsepower with each generation.

    sorry didn't mean to start a 430/360 war. I take it all back. I guess if 360 folks have an extra 50k or so sitting around they can enjoy the improvements on the platform...

    I should have said, Ferraris aren't *just* about getting more horsepower with each generation. You can get a much cheaper car than even the 360 to get more horsepower. These days Mustang and Viper owners shoot for the 1000HP target and the sub 10 sec quarter mile.

    Everyone likes to think they are a good driver, I just have help on my side, I have significantly less weight (+ combined with well balanced chassis upgrades) so it allows me to carry much more speed into and through the corners than anyone would believe was possible.

    No amount of clever electronics and differentials can outsmart the physics of weight transfer, good old mechanical grip and well balanced chassis feel. An e-diff is very clever but its not the defining characteristic. It just helps to put more power down after you've slowed down for a corner and need to accelerate back up again, especially if you go through much faster in the first place ;)

    Fixed seats are hard on back for long drive . Recline feature is nice

    They are not for everyone. Its a commonly quoted that bucket seats hurt you back. I found quite the opposite and after driving several thousand miles in them I suffered no problems whatsover.

    It is usually because the wrong seats are used in the first place, the wrong size or the wrong position. Think about it for a moment, how often do you adjust the reclining on your seats once they are setup at the correct driving position for you? Not often, probably
    never. That's the thing about bucket seats which is the issue, once they are setup they only work for you. Usually they are bolted directly to the floor by supporting brackets. They are much better at supporting you than semi-reclining chairs but if you share the
    car with others then they may not be the best choice. If the car is only ever driven by one person they make a great choice. I also fitted a little bit of soft impact foam which shapes to the contours of your frame and gives you amazing support. Buckets also provide
    excellent lateral support which is often sadly lacking from conventional reclining seats so during track days they are significantly better at holding you in place which means you dont hold on to the steering wheel for dear life but use it to feel the level of grip or
    slip going on.

    Negatives:
    Harder to get in and out of.
    Adjusted (by bolting!) specifically for one person.
    Come in sizes specifically for one size.
    The need to use multipoint harnesses.

    Pros:
    Lighter than recliners
    Safer and stronger
    Better at holding you firmly
    When adjusted improved back support

    Excellent point . My seat is set and I rarely change it. Then let me revise by saying I like a slight recline to my seat position .

    I thought about have Sparco Torino custom covered

    Just got her back and it seems to be a drastically different car. The sound is very different, it seems to rev quicker and burble a lot more on throttle lift off, and she seems to have more low end grunt (as the power seems to come on long before the typical 4500 rpm). I did not take her out for a romp yet (just a drive on my street)...but I am hoping for the best. My Ferrari guy (who put about 40 miles on her) says that it is drastically different...so we shall see. And it looks a hell of a lot better...black ceramic coated headers and shiny stainless sport cats (as opposed to quasi-rusty stock parts).

    And I did not realize that a lithium ion battery saves so much weight. So I added that to the checklist of things to buy. Thanks everyone. --Brian
