I don't believe the users manual has the service schedule. that should be in another separate service manual, which I have not found online anywhere. If anyone knows, please help. I had similar question about service. Does the car give an automatic reminder about the first service?

I'm away from my car and don't have access to my books, but the attached is a scan of pages that a sales guy sent me in 2010 when I asked him what the maintenance schedule is as part of my diligence into the model. I don't know if the schedule has changed subsequently. The copyright probably belongs to Ferrari.

Given the low mileage most cars are driven each year, maintenance is specified at a minimum once a year. I don't remember if the on board display gave me a maintenance reminder a few weeks before the year was over, but I believe that there is a way to look up on the display how many days until service is recommended.

    Hope this helps.

I got a notice on mine but don't remember what the mileage was at the time. I am over 12,500 miles today and had it in for service early this month. Obviously the notice was for miles driven not time.

BTW, does anyone think the mileage interval is awfully long between oil changes? Most people (Rick the exception) don't put that kind of mileage on their cars in a year, so the one year interval is the trigger for most.

But 12.5k miles between changes seems too long an interval. Yes, synthetic oils have come a long way, and yes, engines and fuels are cleaner, so the oil doesn't get contaminated so fast. But the redline is high and the torque curve is such that you often see 6k+ RPM (unless you drive in auto mode all the time). That's a lot of shearing forces. Would you change your oil at halfway, say, at 6-7k miles, or it is moot because you get to the one year interval before you even get to 7k miles?

This topic hardly comes up with Ferraris because most don't get driven more than a few thousand miles a year; some even less than that. There has been quite a debate on this topic for M5s, for example, which often get driven a lot. The California is a "different" Ferrari in that it gets used more, so this is perhaps a bit of a novel question on this forum.

I think modern engines and oil are designed for that. Long long ago I changed the oil in my 1961 Ford rag top every three thousand miles. It had a high performance (for the time) engine and I beat the crap out of it too. We all thought it would help to change the oil often but it used oil anyway.

Neither of my Cali's have needed any oil between changes. They seem to be made much better today. I have had three Porsche 928's and as I remember the interval there was 15,000 miles!

I would. But depends a lot on how you drive your car. Mostly short distances are bad for oil, especially if condensation doesn't have a chance to fully evaporate, which forms acids, and depletes the additive package. THAT is the reason to change oil early, not lack of viscosity. But if you drive only long distances, or strictly use the car on trips, you could go thru the whole interval without fear. Each case is different. That's why many cars have algorithms now, and the computer gives you an idea how much oil life is left. But that's only a guess, since no car has an oil/additive sensor, necessitating manual reset.

I drive around 3-4k miles per year and my dealer said once a year is good. I mostly use the car during the summer on both long and short trips. No oil changes or anything else the rest of the year. I do my svc in the spring just before the car becomes active again.
