I am sending out the clutch and pressure plate to get rebuilt for an older Ferrari car where getting the new clutch and pressure plate is cost prohibitive.

I have been advised to also send out the flywheel with the other two parts (clutch+pressure plate). I understand that this can be used to check against the clutch engagement/etc.

With that being said, is this absolutely necessary; what are the pros/cons?

Finally, is the throw-out bearing needed as well?

    Thank you.

I hope you have NOT sent them out already!!

Resurfacing a clutch disc is simply removing the 'glazing' which basically means your disc is wasted and hopefully the rivets that hold the clutch pads have not dug into the flywheel so much that would deem the current flywheel as "scrap".. Glazing will be transferred to your flywheel and you would be slipping the clutch until the cows come home.

Always install a new throw-out bearing when messing with the clutch.

Why is this being done? Did the clutch blow up, or is it just worn out? Nothing wrong with having new facing put on an old disc and having the pressure plate resurfaced if the springs are good and no warping is present.Having the flywheel resurfaced and everything balanced as a unit is preferable .Always use a new throwout bearing ,cheap insurance.Hard to see how this will be cheaper by a significant margin than new parts. What kind of car? Good luck,Mike

Ok, let me be more specific -- the idea is that the clutch gets rebuilt/relined and having the pressure plate rebuilt to match. A new TO bearing will be installed as well -- I was just looking to see whether it's 'necessary' or just 'good idea' to have the flywheel present to do everything as a unit.
