I started the re-build last week on the 328 GTB recently posted for sale. The new clip will be here next week and is also from an 89-328 but an S.

Pic 1 shows the freshly removed windscreen. Pic 2 shows the pulled dash needed to expose the spot welds to remove the front cowl area. Pic 3 was us locating the fender side mount stitch welds so they can be cut for removal. Pic 4 is a freshly removed side fender skin which exposes the door end and hinge mounts. Pic 5 shows the a small split which was the only damage found on the upper primary frame behind the crush zone. Pic 6 is the freshly drilled off cowl area which readies the car for the new clip. Pic 7 is the car ready for instillation less the wiring bagged for installation. I use hard masking/shielding when the entire soft trim is not removed from the car. This gives the maximum protection of the interior components without the expenses of removal and re-install. Windscreen shield is composite.

Will show removal of new front clip as it progresses. Less that a day invested in the rebuild so far which includes several hours of disassembly education. New front clip removal should be much faster.

I'm happy to be able to save this one. The clip car coming in this week is not salvageable so we'll have parts to sell.

FINALLY---I'm going to build a Ferrari powered mi engine hot rod (high end build) to compete for the Riddler award in Detroit and/or the Oakland roadster show out west. The car will be for sale if some one is interested in such a piece. Body is being designed right now and will be hand built. I know this is not for everyone---but for some of us sick freak modifiers like my self, lovin the possibilities. Stay tuned. Feel free to take a doctor prescribed Zan-X---if needed and keep you sense of humor.

I second the posting quality. One question: what caused the need for the new clip?

    Philip,

The car was crashed right after (100 miles) a total engine rebuild. It had just let my shop several months before for some minor stone chip repairs and detailing----has less than 10,000 miles and was worth saving. As you can see, she looked bad even though the main platform was not damaged. Frankly, the damage was entirely in the crush zone----hat's off to Ferrari. I'm not gone to finish the entire car because the new buyer's brother-in-law is in the body business. My primary function is to properly install the new front sheet metal, crush structure and various parts for completion. I'm not sure if the front clip will be totally installed since the new owner just bought 2 days of my time but it should come close. Thanks for your interest.

Kirk, I need replacements for both of the rectangular heat/fresh-air selector panels (with the rocker arm switches) in the center console. I also need a left-hand air-conditioner vent (the one with louvers in the lower dash). If these are usable in the "clip car" please let me know.

    Kirk,
How did you remove the dashcover ?
I would need to have mine redone (new leather), but I have not figured out how to remove it.
-Do you have some specific pictures ?
-Do I have to lift out the windscreen ?

    Ciao,
    Anders in Sweden

    Ciao,

There are 2 screws on each side of the dash that you access by opening the doors. Looking at your gauge cluster, the 2 lower left and right lights have to be pulled out and there are Phillips screws you remove through the holes. There are several other screws under the dash that you can see laying up-side-down. You will have to drop the steering column but may not have to remove the windshield. The trim pad has to be pulled straight forward with the windscreen in because there is a small metal trim panel that is attached under the glass which trims the dash edge. I will take some pictures of the removal and post them tomorrow. Hope this helps---Good luck.

    Jim,

I'm looking at building a GTO convertible conversion from the salvage so right now so won't be selling anything right now. I will keep you request in my personal 328 parts needed folder.

Here is the cut and paste design for the car. May or may not happen---still in the early IDEA and FEASIBILITY stage right now.

    Kirk,
What an ambitious project! My hat is off to you and I hope to see the GTO drop top soon.

When you get around to making a list of available parts, I am sure there are one or two I could use.

    Best of luck.

Yes and I'll be posting GTB clip disassembly shots soon. The clip platform is currently at a frame shop for measurements and/or repairs if needed. When it returns, the new front end get joined to the red B in the previous posted pictures. Thanks for the interest.
