Err, Red Bull is sponsored by Aston Martin, but I believe the Renault engine at the back is badged TAG-HEUER.
Yes it is, although only the name TAG-Heuer is mentioned on the car - with no obvious relationship between TAG-Heuer and cars, the connection made by non specialists will only be between Red Bull F1 and Aston-Martin. Anyway, Renault is out of the radar for the public.
Such is the way with this place. ''Massa must be replaced by driver X'' ''Kimi must be replaced with driver X or so and so!''. #2 driver always needs to be replaced here. Always. It's never good enough. Best one is still how much they wanted Grosjean...
Yes, and people also said that going to HAAS was for Grosjean a step to get to Ferrari !! I think we can safely say that Ferrari has been saved from Grosjean and Hulkenberg now !!!
That must suit Red Bull fine; it looks like they are ashamed of having Renault engines. There is more kudos in having Aston stickers on the cars !!!
This has been the case for quite some time... prior to Aston Martin, RBR had Infinity as a sponsor... although they did still call the engines Renault. But, like you suggested, when fans saw Infinity, the connection was made. Renault has been off the radar for a long time.
At least Infinity is part of the Renault-Nissan group, so there was still some (indirect) image benefit for Renault. Now there is nothing.
So, since RB don't want to advertise their engines, I hope they pay a lot of money to get them !!! I have hardly see a company so ashamed of its partners... well, McLaren I presume.
********. I think Hulk is one of the better drivers out there--a great starter and unrelenting over the course of a race. I would love to see him at Ferrari.
Red Bull losing power through fuel says Abiteboul JUNE 18, 2018 Red Bull's choice of fuel supplier means it is not maxing out the power of the Renault engine. That is the claim of Cyril Abiteboul, as the long and often troubled Red Bull-Renault partnership enters perhaps its final days. Red Bull is tipped to switch to Honda power for 2019, but is currently refusing to honour a decision deadline imposed by Renault. Amid that delay, Renault boss Abiteboul said Red Bull's choice of fuel supplier has not helped the situation. "You can get extra power from the fuel but we can only guarantee performance equality with what we have in our hands," he told Auto Bild. Renault and its customer McLaren use BP-Castrol fuel, while Red Bull works with Exxon-Mobil. "For strategy and marketing reasons, they have their own partner, which we support," Abiteboul insisted. "I'm sure Exxon has the ability to catch up. But right now they are a bit behind."
In what way is Renault out of the public's perception? Maybe here in the US, but F1 is a global sport and they sell cars in the rest of the world. Renault are in F1 purely to promote themselves, their brand and their Engineering. Red Bull and Christian Horner have always been great supportive team players.........right up until things don't go their way when they immediately start tossing their toys out the pram, crying foul and rapidly throwing their partners under the bus.
Renault is trying to head off a PR disaster. Let's face it-- dumping Renault for Honda is a major blow to their esteem and takes away their most successful team. Renault now has to hope McLaren gets back it's lost mojo. In fact I think this will be good for McLaren.
So....what he's saying is that the Red Bull really has by far the best chassis/aero there then? Because it's leagues ahead of Renault/Mclaren whilst down on power...and nibbling on Mercedes/Ferrari with much more power.
I don't think the Renault will never run on the same budget Red Bull had, or possibly McLaren. That's why, I guess, their chassis development will always be slightly behind. Also, they do not have a top driver. The Renault history in F1 has always looked strange to me; apart from the engine department at Viry-Chatillon, the company doesn't invest as much as other constructors in their factory team, which is run on a shoestring some years.
Looks like they're going to beat McLaren this year. Don't know about in the future but they have Bob Bell and just poached a big time Merc powertrain engineer.
Abiteboul happy about Red Bull-Honda deal JUNE 21, 2018 Cyril Abiteboul says he understands why Red Bull decided to drop its supply of Renault engines. The energy drink owned team announced this week that it will instead use Honda power in 2019 and 2020. Asked by L'Equipe if he is relieved or disappointed now that the news is finally out, Renault boss Abiteboul answered: "Neither one nor the other. "We got an answer after waiting almost a year. "Last year in Singapore we announced that one day we planned to stop the cooperation. We expected this separation after Renault returned as a factory team," the Frenchman explained. "We perfectly understood that Red Bull would look for another partner to regain their status as the factory team." Abiteboul said losing Red Bull will not affect Renault even from a marketing point of view, adding that the new cooperation with McLaren also is not for an image boost. "We supply them with engines because it is important to have two teams for data collection. For the company's interests and in terms of marketing, it starts and ends with the yellow cars of Renault Sport F1," he insisted. Losing Red Bull, however, will cost Renault money, with some estimates saying that together with Toro Rosso the loss in income since 2017 is about EUR 25 million per year. "We will receive less," Abiteboul confirmed, "but we will not have less to spend. "Supplying engines to Red Bull required money but did not generate much revenue. So parting with them will not affect our budget." But at the end of the day, Abiteboul insists Renault is not "relieved" the Red Bull era is finally ending. "It's not a story that ended badly," he said. "I don't like the word relief. I prefer to talk about the logical development of events. "For us I am happy, because now we can concentrate on preparing for 2021. And I'm happy for Red Bull Racing, as they have found a new partner, and for Honda, because we have four manufacturers in formula one. "We just needed an answer, and that's why we hurried our partners a little. And I thank them for that," Abiteboul added.
Abiteboul is very generous about Red Bull, very diplomatic I thought. A divorce was on the cards for a few years already.
Sorry mate, I would not like to see him at Ferrari at the expense of Kimi Kimi is a way better driver ........ now if he replaced Vettel that may be a different kettle of fish
Risk big get big! Go RB... I'd like to see DR win the WDC. He has the temperament to do it and would be a good winner.
I'd like to see him win a title too, but Red Bull going for Honda engines is a tad concerning. All the best, Andrew.
