According to speedtv.com, Red Bull and Honda have signed a deal which would provide Red Bull with customer Honda engines next year. Even though the Cosworth engines were fine in the opener, apparently the deal with Honda will cost the team about half of what Cosworth is charging them.

Funny to see Red Bull wanting Honda engines after seing the performance of the BAR Honda team at the Australia GP. BAR Honda did finish second last season and in my opinion, Honda still has one of the best engine in F1. Cosworth did miracles with their new engine, the CR-V10, and now Red Bull wants the less expensive engines, the Honda engines. I would have done the same.
BUT they've not signed a deal yet.

That rumor of Red Bull getting Ferrari engines in 2006, I still beleive it. Remember last week Ferrari was the only team that didn't when Minardi to run the old car in Melbourne. If you guys didn't know, Red Bull turned to Ferrari side, opposing Minardi running the old car. This was before Practice 1 or after Practice 2 on friday.
I see some Ferrari and Red Bull connection.

According to BAR's bosses car's slow pace was mainly due to downforce problems and not to hp. http://www.itv-f1.com/News_Article.aspx?PO_ID=32251

What does the Red Bull Honda deal mean for BAR especially when Honda just bought a larger stake in the team?

Makes sense as they will no longer be supplying sauber.

This raises the question will cosworth stay in f1 if this is true, with only a broke minardi to supply would it be financially viable? Might end up seeing

    Ferrari- Ferrari, RBR
    BMW- Williams, Sauber
    Toyota- Toyota, Midland

    Honda- Bar
    Renault- Renault
    Mercedes- Mclaren

and one of the above three providing minardi

Smart deal for them while Cossie is still floating out there as an indepenant while the big formula change is due next year. I heard Cosworth has a v8 running, but without proper financing, how far can that be developed?

If BMW buys Sauber, BMW and Williams parthership will be over. Even if the contract with Williams ends in 2009, BMW are just about fed-up with Williams' failure to deliver a title-winning car.http://www.f1racing.net/en/news.php?newsID=79298
Williams might transfer to Cosworth engines next season.(rumors)

We may have joked about it in the past, but it's almost looking possible now for the introduction of a format where teams decide on a chassis and engine package and purchase that. Kinda like CART used to be.

The new cosworth CR-V10 engine come with a very stiff price tag. Let me put it to you this way...

The CR-V10 costs more than the current Ferrari engine being supplied to PETRONAS for Sauber. Infact the CR-V10 engine is so expensive, it makes Ferrari engines seem cost affective.

I cannot quote my sources but there is a strong possibility that we will see Red Bull Racing with Ferrari engines. Red Bull Racing is also considering using Tata (the Indian Company involved with Ferrari) for outsourcing some research and development work to.

There's only one team using them and there's not a large corporation footing the bill for them.

Also Ferrari are interested in Vitantonio Liuzzi.
Red Bull becomes Ferrari B team....Ferrari engines to Red Bull and Ferrari can have Liuzzi.
I hope this is what is going to happen.

True, and Ecclestone say's that he has (or implies really) two other teams willing to sign the new Concord Agreement.

But, at the moment the only other team that'll be running Ferrari engines next year will be... Jordan. They'll be running Ferrari V8's.

If I were Red Bull I'd go with the Honda. Sorry guys. :(

    only partially true!

The cr-v10 is in fact the best engine to come out of cosworth to date.
