Infiniti expected to take over Renault engines; rumors of an announcement Red Bull Infiniti on Monday.... Not other details at this point....
I wouldn't call it a takeover if they do something like that. Considering Renault and Nissan are part of the same group it'd just be a branding exercise. Maybe they're launching Infinity in Europe.
Considering that Renault bought in at about a 40% share into Nissan approximately 12 years ago, and that together they have about a 10% worldwide automotive share...and that they now share engines between them...announciing an Infiniti engine change is a simatical change at best. Interestingly enough, this is the first Japanese/French partnership of any manufacturing or industrial type ever.
Hummm, it all depend what you call partnership. The PSA group (Peugeot-Citroen), for instance, has been sharing manufacturing facilites with Toyota in Slovakia for a few years, to produce cars marketed under 3 different brands (Peugeot 107, Citroen C1, Toyota Aygo). As far as I know they are equal partners in that venture The same PSA group also co-operates with Mitsubishi in the production of a Crossover also marketed under the 3 brands (Peugeot 5008, Citroen Crossover, Mitsubishi Outlander). On the European market, PSA diesel engines have also found their way under the bonnet of some MAZDA. Maybe it's just co-operation ...
You have hit the nail right on the head, they are currently in the process of bringing the Infiniti brand to Europe.
Funny, as the engine in the McLaren MP4-12C has it's origins from the Infiniti Le Mans and IRL Motor that started with the Q45.
Just changing the name on the cam covers. Its not like they're switching designs or manufacturing facilities.
Oh yeah now I'll be the biggest Red Bull fan everr since I drive an Infiniti. Now I just gotta choose Webber or Vettel. EDIT - WAIT does this mean my beloved brand is going to be mixed up in that "Group Team Lotus F1 Racing" bull****? Oh no! I'll have to root for Heikki then.
