Yes, because Ferrari would never pay a driver off to release him from his contract early in order to put another, more preferred driver in the car would they? ;)

    ;)

It's rather early to expect Renault to hang crepe and RB to wave the white flag.

I could see them keeping their options open. Why not as its good business. I would completely inquire about Honda and keep tabs on that development in case Renault have a weak year. If they are not looking around constantly to improve why be in the sport at all.

Yes agree, and the non Renault powered teams are probably secretly rubbing their hands.

In a word the show hopefully will improve if RB are on their back foot for a bit, I do not see that for too long though.

Meanwhile I'll get back to watching the Bobsleigh..;)

Ferrari/Mercedes will lose much more money if RB are to win the championship ahead of them. Engine deal is around 18 to 25m a year for a team.

Could be right on that one.

Probably very true. F1 has always been at least somewhat 'political' with behind the scenes shenanigans all the time. I'm sure many teams are trying to talk to Honda right now........

However, working through problems together and, yes, I'll say it, loyalty also still count. They've won the last four titles together! They're as close as they have to a 'works' outfit & know each other well.

Changing carries a huge risk, particularly given the success they've enjoyed together. I don't know how long their contract continues for, and we know the value of those in F1 if it suits them, but nah, they're not looking for a new supplier - At least yet! ;)

Renault will get 'er sorted. They may struggle in Melbourne, but many of the others will too, regardless of lump. (Sorry, 'power unit' ;))

    Cheers,
    Ian

If RB does have to switch engines, this might be the one thing that holds them back. If not, I wouldn't bet against Newey. He is just (still) so much better than everyone else.

Let's be clear here, Red Bull are not currently looking to switch engine suppliers!

All of this has come from Gian Carlo Minardi saying that they "maybe looking for a new supplier of turbo V6 engines".

He has no more idea than anybody else as to what's really going on so lets not get some silly hopes up that Red Bull are in desperate trouble and going to be without an engine supply any time soon!

    Not immediatly, that's for sure.

But if Renault shows any sign of weakness, is it not the role of the technical team to look elsewhere for alternative for the following years?

Red Bull is certainly not going to wait for the end of 2014 to make up their mind.
Contacts have to be made, results analysed and it takes months of negotiations to get a deal. The next few races will tell them where they stand.

Agree of course. I think Renault will get it sorted and Red Bull will be in the mix. Lauda has said the tolerance for excess heat of the Mercedes power unit is quite small. Cooling is critical. They might have been reliable in Jerez but Bahrain might show weakness among those strong in the first test. Love the uncertainty of all this! :)
