I got home after a 30 min hard drive and lifted the engine hood to let it cool and was quite surprised to see the entire exhaust incl the cats... the exhaust pipes glowing RED HOT! Is this normal? I have never seen this on another car... Engine temp was 90* and the oil temp was around 95*C..
This is with reference to F430...

You must have driven the hell out of the car. I've seen it on turbocharged cars, where the turbo and entire exhaust system will be ruby red when you are done driving real hard.

I don't know if I've ever seen it on a N/A motor. You might want to double check to make sure the secondary exhaust valves (which I believe the 430 has?) are opening properly. Also, you might want to consider putting on a more free flowing performance exhaust if you plan to drive the car that hard/long.

Google "glowing turbo" then click the images link near the top.. that will probably help you sleep a little easier :)

OTHO your mixture could be way off dumping fuel into your exhaust and buring it there. You could have a plugged cat to will cause this but I have never seen two plugged cats at the same time. Ferrari electronics are not the greatest so even if you don't get error codes you could still be having a problem.

I did notice that all of our ferraris seems to run really hot, I know that the thermostate keeps the temp at around 190-200 range which is normal for water cooled engines, and the oil temp is not radically hotter than any other car. But boy that engine bay gets steaming hot.

I wonder if it has to do with the trapped floor pan and the mid engine lay out where the heat just don't escape as easily?

The exhaust on any car that is driven hard can glow, even a naturally aspirated car. Turbos only end up glowing more because the turbo creates more back pressure in the system which in turn creates more heat. The open exhaust system of a naturally aspirated car just dissipates the heat more efficiently. I have seen the entire header up until the cat of a miata glow after a short but very spirited drive. I suppose the fairly compact header/cat/exhaust system in the F430 could dissipate heat less efficiently than a traditional car with the engine in the front and no flat underbody.

The exhaust manifolds on the 355 inevitably melt/crack and need replacing....they're just made super-crappy. The 360 is said to be a bit better, but they too are said to eventually have the same fate. The 430 may not be any better. If it's a problem, better get it checked-out yesterday!

I guess this is not an unusual sight in a Ferrari. Especially if you live in a tropical country. Anyway I am replacing my cats with Hyper Flows and installing a Capristo Level 3. This should bring the temp down a bit. Has anyone used thermo tec heat wrap on their exhausts?

my 430 has the same problem
funny it doesn't have any "slow down" warning. And the f430 is a later production because I see no exhaust temperature probe.
Is that the temperature isn't high enough? I observe the red glowing at night, FYI.
