On my 1970 Maserati Ghibly is next to the ignition key a red light. If I start the car the light stays on. I can not find what the purpose of this light is. Is there any one who could help?

Ghiblis sometimes have warning lights randomly placed and not according to the user manual. There should be a warning light for the hand brake ... perhaps that is it.

I’d guess it’s the hand brake probably not full disengaged.

That is not it as he pointed out that the hand brake warning light is on the left of the steering wheel. The other three lights to the left of the steering wheel are for the two fuel tanks and the heated rear glass. I wonder if the build sheet lists any special options.

Indicating that engine is running? Because we all know how quiet Maserati GT V8's are ... ;):p

The Italians truly were awful when it came to their ergonomics for warning lights back then.

Does the car have an auxilerary electric fuel pump that is switched? My mid-50s Italian car has a light for this. OR, is it that you are NOT charging ?

On a quick search via BaT, the only other picture of an ‘interim’ dash with toggle switches moved to the top does not have such a light. obvs It’s 60’s Maserati so all sorts of stuff is possible.
low oil pressure light installed after the fact??
If it is, then it shouldn’t be on all the time though…maybe just at idle? or is it permanently lit?

    Best.

^^^ If so it’s easily eliminated as a suspect. the connections to that switch can be accessed from under the dash you could either photograph them from below to check connection to the light, or disconnect while the light is on and see what happens…
    Happy hunting. m

Maybe it’s just that……the fact that the car is running with the key in the ignition.
