Interesting Helton trivia....... Helton received a scholarship from the University of Tennessee to play both football and baseball, after turning down a deal from the San Diego Padres. During his freshman and sophomore years at Tennessee he backed up Heath Shuler at quarterback. Starting his junior season he was the back-up behind Jerry Colquitt and ahead of Peyton Manning. After an injury to Colquitt, Helton got the starting spot only to face injury himself and be replaced by Manning. After first seeing Manning tossing the football in practice, Helton immediately acknowledged his abilities and switched to a full-time baseball player. Following his junior baseball season Helton was drafted by the Colorado Rockies. (From Wiki)
+2. let me put it this way, my money's on the red sox, but i sincerely hope the rockies win. i still have bad memories of 2004...
Wow.......... They are really moping the floor with the Rockies right now. It's the bottom of the 5th and its 1-13... another walk with the bases loaded and the pulled another pitcher. 8 of the 9 Red Sox starters have RBI's. This is rough. I wouldn't want to a Rockies pitcher right now...
it would have been nice to see a world series between the cubs and red sox again, especially if boston hadn't of won the 04 series.
Great start so far, Beckett was smokeing everyone in the the first, didn't he set a post series record for that ? Although I would prefer to see close games myself.
i was worried there for a little bit that beckett was coming after gibson's world series strike out record. (which is 17, set by bob gibson of my cardinals in game 1 of the 1968 world series, which is the only series in which the tigers have managed to beat us out of 3 we've played against each other, they won in 7 games. just a little bit of trivia for you guys...)
i feel your pain...although if the yankees aren't in the world series, it's a good year...(just kidding, )
I knew as soon as Colorado had to play Boston in the WS that they'd get their butts handed to them. Even if the Rockies win the next 2 in Colorado, they'd have to go to Fenway and win 2 more. Not going to happen against Boston. If the Sox don't sweep them or beat them in the 5th game, Colorado is still not going to hack it. This great pitching that was supposedly the best in the NL is absolutely terrible. Boston is teeing off on them. Then their hitting is pretty weak, aside from last night. Another supposedly a great hitting team crumbling under the pressure. The Rockies snuck into the playoffs, barely squeaked by the Padres in the sudden death elimination game, and had little competition with the rest of the NL.
It sweet, I just wish they had of one it at Fenway, but oh well, Now we have to watch to see if they will take A-Rod.
