Pretty partial to CA cabs but also love a good
old world red from time to time.

Gearing up for a night of Italian food and wine! Both of these will need some time to develop but looking forward to the journey.

likely one of hundreds of reminders that lower-cost wines from Europe can be great.

(I've always found that I'd far rather drink a $20 red from Spain, France or Italy than a $20 red from Cali or down under. I still remember when a good friend of mine moved to Provence in the mid-90s for work and kept telling me he was finding fantastic wines at the local stores for 10 bucks that he'd never heard of, but were great drinking. I found that continues to be true today.)

yummy! I was on their list from the beginning until 2 years ago. Some of their wines over the years have been truly remarkable (as in a table of wine geeks sitting there wondering "how the heck did he do that?" when confronted by the intense fruit and yet the fantastic balance and acid, all in a warm-weather, high-alcohol wine...I don't think anyone else on the planet is capable of doing what he does with those grapes). They were literally the only cali wines in my cellar.

Still could go another 10+ years. Great red fruit on the nose; slight minerals; wonderful jammy, hoisin/plummy taste; minor leather notes. Rounded out the prime rib nicely and a good follow-on to the heavier 2013 Continuum (that was maybe still a little young).

I had shifted focus to The Sud when Bordeaux prices shot up through the roof early 2000s. My 2002 Nice trip opened me to the southern part of France.

FFWD to Vegas 2004 where 10 family members dined at Delmonico's Steakhouse Thanksgiving weekend and I spotted a 2003 Pegau on the wine list for $150! Ordered. Mom LOVED it so I made it a mission to get a case. I likely overpaid slightly when Zachys emailed saying they located stock. Didn't matter as I won >$6k that weekend gambling.

I kept buying CDPs after that... 2004 Pegau, along with 2003 and 2004 Las Papes, Sabon, and several others. 5 to 6 stellar years in the region brought tremendous interest, and price increases. I stopped buying, more so because I was close to 1000 bottles of wine and running out of storage space.

Great delivery, awaiting mine, did you get the 2008 initial release? How far back does your Bryant go? I was at the wineries this summer, great tastings, including Harlan...we should possibly trade notes!

This bottle just arrived. I hope to visit MacDonald on trip to Yountville next month. Have not been to Napa in 4 years or so.
Not expecting anything else from CA this year.

    Thank you for suggestions.
Blankiet-We have been buying for awhile and visited them twice. It is beautiful property-an impressive level of wealth. Just buying Prince of Hearts now
Promontory-We bought first vintage. Around that time, decided to drop off Harlan and Bond due to price increases and being able to buy on secondary market for less.
    Kinsman-probably a long wait list
Dakota Shy and Bella Oaks--I have heard about them and will try to schedule appointments.

Looking forward to some good food like Ciccios, Bistro Jeanty, Ad Hoc, Bouchon etc. Some new ones to try like RH and Calenda. On the waitlist for TFL but we recently ate at Inn at Little Washington. They are not the same but same class, however, if Truffle Risotto is on the menu it will be an easy yes.

Your going to very nice places! Remember, Promontory will pour a very nice glass of champagne...DP, Krug or Cristal t wet your palate...He should ask...what else would you like to taste...2010! If your there this summer, the 4 seasons in Calistoga is opening a great restaurant...Enjoy!
