A case of Caymus Special Selection (O.W.C.) 2017 arrived on Saturday! Now resting comfortably in my wine cellar..... And time to finish/drink up my allocations from 2012/2013.
Nice wine restaurant doing wine flights. Image Unavailable, Please Login Image Unavailable, Please Login
Markup for magnums and 3L of scarecrow is very high. I got the 750mls for $500 and decided to pass on the large format. Many of the Bordeaux and other Ca wines are 2x for magnum, 4x for 3L etc. so I tend to pick those for large formats.
Today’s arrival. Completes my Promontory vertical from the inaugural ‘08 vintage (magnum) through 2016. Image Unavailable, Please Login
Outstanding, are you going to the dinner at the end of April at promontory? My cella is close to yours…great minds have great taste! Did you get Bella Oaks initial offering?
In the bargain basement for this thread...last night Dom. Drouhin Dundee Hills 2018 PN. Great value. Had it with roast duck.
A case of 2016 Chateau Nenin Pomerol arrived today from my wine broker! This is a magnificent luscious red Bordeaux. Silky smooth, velvety, with an extended finish. It took my wine broker a while to acquire, so may not be readily available, but well worth trying if you can find it.....
Image Unavailable, Please Login I decided to open one of these for my wife’s birthday. Not an especially age worthy year, but an excellent drinking bottle 11 years in. The others can go another handful of years before I revisit it. I thought it was very representative of the house style, but would need a bit more concentration to be a truly great vintage. Still, it was fabulous. JK
20th anniversary. It was awesome. I picked it up 14 years ago. I would say though that it’s not worth current retail and definitely time to drink if you have any left.
Just wondering how any of this went? some of the burgundy looked low - so either leaked out OR perhaps was conserved in the past... regardless the Yquem is a gem, and collectors all over would love that. OR you could donate it to the Yquem museum at the Winery...
This 1996 Chateau Latour will be called into service this evening at my 71st birthday dinner. It was rated 99 by Parker and currently retails for $1,000, but I paid less than $200 for it back in 1999. I hope it lives up to its reputation…wish me luck. Alan N.J. . Image Unavailable, Please Login
Image Unavailable, Please Login We had a great birthday dinner at “Red Horse”, chef David Burke’s flagship restaurant in Rumson, NJ. Food was fabulous…head there if you’re ever looking for a great, upscale meal in Monmouth County. I recommend their dry-aged steaks and “clothesline bacon” (strips of thick bacon, strung out on a miniature clothesline, that you cut off with a scissor). The 1996 Latour was perfect! I had a bottle of it about six years ago and it was way too young. I’m happy to report that this blockbuster is now in the zone and should remain there for the next 20-40 years. A classic, big Bordeaux now in its prime! Alan N.J.
Happy birthday! We ate at David Burke's steak place in Chicago and it's one of the top meals we've ever enjoyed from the food to the service. The man really knows steak. Paired with that wine, it must have been magic. Again, happy birthday...T
Burke is a classic. Congratulations. And I am very pleased to see that I am not the only guy who wears a suit and tie to a proper dinner!
Built a wine room during the remodel…ordered a few vintages of Opus, Continuum, Dominus and Phelps Insignia (plus my fav Fantini Edizone). Anything I am missing in this category of wines?
