Good Lord... Is that the nosewheel that broadsides the car directly in front??? It ricochets off the bottom of the overpass and hits the car in the side...

Saw this on BBC News - terrible stuff. :(

Was that a 3-seater bench that the camera car ran over right towards the end?

    All the best,
    Andrew.

5 lives lost now... out of 8...

Tu-204 has been fairly reliable... only other overrun was a brake failure recently - no fatalities.

is it a law in russia, that every car/truck must have a dash cam?

Subsequently, it looks like 3 total of the Tu-204's have had 'crashes' since the introduction of the model.

2 of the 3 were overruns (including this one). Both overruns were due to brake issues.

Appears it was NOT PILOT ERROR in either of the overruns (including this one.)

Not a pilot, but shouldn't they have tried pulling up then?

They were all out of runway before they realized (probably) that the reversers were not working.

Assume there's an interlock preventing the brakes AND REVERSERS AND SPOILERS from working unless both main gear are loaded.

If you look at the article it showed that is alternated from left to right main gear being compressed. Both gear switches did not switch until the A/C ran off the end of the runway.

An earlier report advised TU-204 operators to make sure that the reverser unlock lights goes green prior to throttling up for reverse thrust.

Having been to Russia a few times, I can tell you that the primary reason for having the dash cams is accidents. To prove fault in the event of one. It is not mandatory, but if you ever visit Russia and experience their driving first hand you would see why cameras are so popular.

I believe they knew the reversers were not working which is why they cycled them multiple times. Since they didn't have compression on the mains, the computer would not let the reversers deploy instead causing increased speed as the fans spool up. They had 32 seconds to attempt everything they could to get the plane stopped. Unfortunately, nothing worked to their advantage.

I did read the article... just looking for clarification.

Going to 'idle reverse' (like LouB747 does) before hitting the throttles sounds like an excellent idea.

Even that won't work if you don't get both mains on the ground, maybe.
