Why on earth does everybody think Ferrari's have to be red? There are so many nicer colors made by Ferrari than boring old RC. Look at Grigio Ingrid, Verde Mugello, Canna Di Fuca, TDF, ...........

In my younger days I fell in love with the F40. Never saw a picture of one in anything but RC. Always wanted a red Fcar. On my third one and they all have been RC. For me there is nothing like driving a red Ferrari. Never gets old for me.

Read an interview with Pinin Farina. He said they design the cars to look best in red. Really.

But it's just a color. Get what looks best to you.

Just ordered a new Audi RS5. Decided to get in Misano Red Pearl which is a shade toward Rosso Scuderia from RC. Our two favorite car colors are red and bright silver. Already have 2 silver cars and we traded in a white pearl car which we got very tired of. So red was our best choice.

IMVHO red looks best on small cars. Just too much on anything larger than an RS5.

    The Garage:
Porsche Boxster S platinum silver metallic over sand beige leather
Audi S4 ice silver metallic over black leather with moon silver leather inserts
Audi RS5 Misano Red Pearl over black leather with silver contrast stitching
Ferrari 458 Spider Rossa Corsa over beige leather Daytonas with red stitching, piping and horses

When you paint a car red it becomes all about the color. It takes a vivid, almost extreme body shape to compete visually.

I personally think they look best in Rossa Corsa with black (without any metallic in the paint) a close second. I have an S63 and I wouldn't want a Rossa Corsa or any color red one. I find every different car suits a different color unless it is yellow or white in which case I wouldn't want anything in either.

Interesting point. The 458 Spider gets 10x the attention of my F355 GTS and 360 Spider. All were RC.

The 458 is a stunning design in (almost) any color.

Larger cars like the FF don't come off as well in a bright red.

They say that the Eskimos have a thousand words for snow. The Italians have at least as many for red.

Italy's country racing color is red. Most of the racing Ferrari's were red.

    Most Ferraris weren't racing cars.

The US racing colors are white with a blue stripe.
See many Vettes painted that way?

I agree with others on larger F-cars not being ideal in Rosso Red.

You can also add the 612 to that list - I think it looks terrible in RC, but not too bad in in a darker red, such as Rubino Red. I prefer these cars in either Nero Daytona (Black), Grigio Silverstone (Gray), or TdF (Blue).

I once owned a 328 in White, and it held its value just fine when I decided to sell it.

Regardless, at the end of the day, its your preference.

And, FWIW, Steve McQueen's drab Brown Lusso sold for 2.3M at auction. But, hey, it's Steve McQueen. :)

I've had four so far and haven't come anywhere near rossa corsa yet. Nothing against it, but I agree with you, and each model seems to have it's own favorite colors. But at the end of the day, corsa isn't my favorite on hardly any. It's my favorite on the 308/328. That's about it.

For some reason, red has always been the preferred colour of ferraris, and for the smaller cars, the v8s, resale is key as everyone's first Ferrari tends to be a 'red' one. Once they graduate to a newer or a v12, then colour is secondary to the decision to buy, hence the minority of red 575, 599, 612 etc compared to the percentage of red in 360, 430, 458 etc

Red on road cars is fairly recent thing. In the Enzo era most cars were painted other colors.

I used to think my first Ferrari would be RC with tan interior but spending the years here I've learned that I prefer most in colors other than RC.

I'll use the sub categories for my preferences

Vintage - dark colors (no metal flake) or Argento
    206/246 - Blue Sera
    365GT4/400/412 - Nero or Bianco
Boxer/TR/M - RC, Nero or Bianco (TR only)
308/328 - RC, Blue Sera or Prugna
    Mondial - Nero, Bianco, Prugna
    348/355 - Nero...end of discussion
456/550/575 - Grigio Silverstone, TdF blu, Argento
    360/430 - Azzuro California
    599/612 - Grigio Silverstone
    California - Bianco
    FF/F12 - FF Bianco, F12 RC
    Supercars - RC

Yes there is, resale! :D It's just true, Red brings a premium, most first time buyers will only buy red. It is a nice color, but other colors are beautiful as well.

    Quite.
    You need strongly defined contours.
And a deep red like that beautiful shade helps.
