Understood and an easy thing to measure as it simply is a distance measurement on the shock absorber. Not as good but legal. I listened to that sound clip via that link and it does very much, to me, sound like not all cylinders a firing as he exited the corner for a fraction of a second. This could only be done via a different engine map ... is Vettel pushing a steering wheel button as he exits a tight corner I wonder? As apparently it is not legal to automatically switch engine maps. Note the article said that Renault are, for some reason, allowed to cut cylinders ... ?? If RB are measuring suspension load/travel and, via another processor, selecting engine maps is that legal? One would also have to factor in car speed into this calculation as a long fast corner will induce high load (therefore suspension travel) and surely you would not want to change maps (or turn on the KERS charging) then? Pete
As RB are the Renault stars I'd suggest that they work pretty closely. Gone are the days of and engine arriving and then trying to work out how to fit it . 2014 should be fantastic as finally these cars, engine wise still least, are going to be thoroughly modern. If they kept things as they were soon it would be difficult to differentiate F1 with historic racing Pete
Red Bull Sebastian Vettel didn't cheat in Singapore says Christian Horner | Mail Online Interesting quote: Vettel, however, has made it clear Red Bull had a trick up its sleeve in Singapore, and now it is for their rivals to discover what. 'We were playing around quite a lot with it in practice, but the first time it worked was in the race,' said Vettel. 'I was quite confident other people would never figure out how we did it. 'We are pretty proud of the system we have because other people will never figure out how weve done it.' Hmmm...fishy fishy
I wouldn't believe everything Christian Horner says! Don't forget that this is the same man who was still hinting that talks were ongoing with Alonso about joining Red Bull, even after Alonso had stated on record that there had never been any discussions with Red Bull at all!
I think Vettel is a bit more forthcoming. He's just saying that they've figured something out within the rules that is allowing him to destroy the competition. I'm uncertain as to why this is seen as a problem (for RBR)...clearly, they have a set up on their car that is unequaled on the grid.
Of course the double bluff who'd thunk it..it makes no odds to them either way, they are destroying the competition, and having a laugh with it by all accounts. Yes it is clever, they have gained a edge and are making a mockery of the rest of the field, and in fact I'd say they are almost taunting the rest in saying, it is hard to find.... or is it.
MB believes that Renault have figured out the engine mapping to the nth degree hence the domination by rb and grosjean. Kimi apparently doesn't like the latest Pirelli tires but grosjean does. The articles are on autosport.
Forthcoming indeed. Cant remember the last time any driver (or competitor in any sport) that said "Ya.. We're cheating"
Those two Renault teams gained quite a bit just from engine mapping which supposedly shuts down multiple cylinders in corner yet RICHENS the fuel mix which is in-turn burned in the exhaust manifolds thus providing thrust to the blow diffuser. The Renault engines are the only engines which can do this as they utilize colder blowing as opposed to the MB units which are hot. I could be very wrong, but that's how I understand the situation anyway.
Sounds as a good explanation to me. Also read that they reignite them progressively in function of how much traction/suspension load there is.
When the traction control acts up, make Weber take 4 sets of tires. In the end, Kid Index, crybaby that he is, has somp pictures of Newey and a goat.
It's not cheating man; it's INNOVATION . That's exactly what F1 rules promote, and the first on the plate usually has an advantage. Just ask Apple . Cheating is what Ferrari and Mercedes did with the tire tests; don't confuse the two .
How did Ferrari cheat with their tire test? They used a 2011 car, it was completely within the rules. Maybe you're confused.
Wrap it in Saran wrap. Best investment I ever made. Its the coffee through the nose that still gets me. You nutbirds
Which implies that they CAN change engine maps on the fly, or via some sort of automation sat he driver would not be doing this. I thought this was illegal? Pete
